Theirs only a handful (actually 3 fighters) that I would pick over Napoles at Welter and jr.welter that's Robinson,Leonard and Hearns. Chavez would be fighting Napoles at a weight were Napoles was probably at his very best at Jr.welter. Sorry I don't see anyway Chavez, who was not at his best at Jr.welter/welter to win this fight. This fight I could see Chavez getting stopped, or actually pulling a No Mas.

In all fairness to Chavez this wasn't his best weight Lightweight was. And if Whittaker could out slick Chavez ( draw was robbery ) then so could Naples. Mantequilla on pts.

Napoles may have been the best fighter to compete regularly at 140 in the modern history of the division. It’s a real shame that he didn’t get the title shot he deserved, although the jnr welterweight division’s loss was the welterweight division’s gain.

Chavez would have his work cut out for him but I think he would give Napoles a tough, tough fight. Putting aside Napoles’s problems with cuts, I see Mantequilla being just a bit too slick for JCC. Would have been an intriguing clash of styles though.

Napoles far too classy, only question would be, what excuse would Chavez dig up!

Whereas Chavez could always cry baby his way out of any danger posed by Mantequilla, like he did vs the much lesser, but honorable just the same Frankie Randall..

Napoles. Saying Napoles didnt do much at 140 is the height of ignorance. Trying to diminish his opposition at that weight is laughable. My favorite was the knock against all time great Eddie Perkins saying he had 10 losses (as if that mattered in that era. When Napoles beat Perkins Perkins hadnt lost a legitimate decision in 6 years at least. His losses to Hernandez and Loi being hometown robberies. Napoles could have stayed at 140 for years (maybe even 135) but he moved up to 147 because nobody would give him a title shot there. Thats a matter of record.

Napoles would beat the living Hell outta Chavez.

Honestly, the REAL question should be Napoles vs Duran.

Chavez wouldn't hang with either one.

You and I are usually on the same page, and I agree that Napoles could win this. Napoles was an amazing fighter. But, NOBODY beats the living hell out of a prime Chavez at that weight. Until he was well in his 30s Julio was still iron at that weight.

Even Ortiz (who ducked NOBODY and would fight ANYWHERE) didn’t really want to fight Napoles at 135.

Chavez is a great fighter. I think the gap in their mythical all-time ranking is closer than what the gap would look like in a mythical matchup. Napoles is greater and a better fighter. I’d take him 10-5 over Chavez.

I wasn't implying that he gives Chavez some one sided thrashing the way he did Cokes.

However, I see Napoles winning going away. A pretty commanding decision win.

Napoles vs Duran is the far more interesting, and arguably matchup where a case can be made for either winning.

I'm struggling to see what argument the pro-Chavez crowd has here.

Chavez had pull the Taylor fight out of the fire, and with all due respect to Meldrick, handspeed aside, Taylor was inferior to Napoles at every facet of boxing.

    Napoles would comprehensively outbox Chavez.
