How in gods name could Lewis "know" he could beat Rahman in the return? Sure he knew himself he took him woefully for granted and didn't arrive early enough to acclimatize but it's historically hard to beat people in rematches who have stopped you. You do realize that the McCall and Rahman rematches were for titles right? There's that lol Why would Lewis rematch Mercer or Vitali? He punched half of Vitali's face off and Mercer didn't even have a title.
Why would Lewis rematch Mccall and Rahman then? those guys beat him easy in their first bout, one punch. There's no such thing as lucky punch either, Mccall won the first round in their first fight and Rahman won few rounds aswell before knocking Lewis out. Lewis cant even hurt Mccall in rematch despite Mccall dropping his hands.
He had rematches with McCall & Rahman because he lost to them & wanted revenge; he didn't lose to Vitali or Mercer - it's pretty simple really. I don't see any logic in criticising Lewis for not pursuing rematches with men who he had beaten and for pursuing rematches with guys who had stopped him/knocked him out. Most fighters would rather rematch the opponents they had beaten, not the ones who had sparked them!!!!
He rematched Rahman for the title so he could become HW champ again, He rematched McCall as they were nominated to fight for the vacant title. If he didn't fight them, he doesn't get the world title. Where was the value in fighting Mercer again? Why should Lennox fight Vitali again? He was getting older and slipping. His and Vitali's primes were too far apart for there to have ever been any kind of series. A rematch was tipping the odds too far towards Klitschko. I agree there is no such thing as a lucky punch - what was Rahman doing? waving to someone in the crowd and accidentally tagged Lennox on the chin? No. He threw a punch which landed where he wanted it to land. Nothing lucky there. However, you are lucky if your opponent rocks up late without proper acclimatisation or training. You're lucky if your opponent has lost his focus and is fighting way below his usual standard. That's when your punch might land when it wouldn't if you're unlucky and face an opponent in top shape.
Close, but I think Earnie could perform the coldcock here. For some reason, I think he would be able to get to Lennox early, and in that scenario, big time wrap.
