In person I would say Bruno/Lewis at the Arms Park just topped Benn/EubankII at Old Trafford. My ol' man swears both McGuigan/Pedroza and Witherspoon/Bruno were better, I was too young to judge.
I was on hand at Mosely Margarito at Staples Center in LA It was all Mexicans hootin and hollering and waiving Mexican flags..... Mexican fans are notorious for being rowdy but then getting real quiet if their fighter starts losing. Not these guys though, that place was rocking right up until the end. I was a bit dissapointed more fans didnt show up for Mosely in his own arena though.... But there were just too many Mexicans, they really took that joint over
Anything at the Blue Horizon! Voted by Ring as the best boxing venue in the world...this time they were correct! TV Hatton vs Tszyu
that's my answer as well. that upper deck just leaned over the action. I'm sure building codes woould not even allow for that kind of structure.
Oh how I wish I could have been at Gatti-Ward I, that crowd lost its mind by round nine! At the bottom left hand of the screen (end of round) you can see the security guard aint payin' no damn attention to the audience. His big mug is right there in the ring looking memorized while the fans hollered seemingly through the whole round. Quiet crowd can kill the mood, even if there is good back n forth action. I've never been to a fight that was sold out with a lively crowd but I have been at a few fights, where the audience was off the hook. They never showed it., but there was some real intense moments in the Dirrell-Abraham crowd. Around 8-10 row where I was at. Abraham fans got into a ruckus with Direll fans. A riot almost broke out when some of us though that Abraham hit Dirrell with an elbow---if you go the part right after Dirrell slowly falls to the canvas...either his brother or a team member was on the apron & he motions with his elbow, questioning if that was what occurred, so people in my section was about to throw down...until we looked up at the jumbotron and saw there was no elbow landed.
Oh, Dirrell fans got real quiet when he started pouting and shouting "Who called me coward?!" Fans are like uh....your wife? She was saying to Arthur, but Andre didn't even know the voice of his own woman...and she has a kind of raspy voice. Fine woman, but to not know your woman's voice...made me think he did pass out or knocked out. In fact, when his manager got in the ring (4get his name) Andre wanted to put his head on his shoulder & lamented, I'm sorry, I got dropped. He had to tell him know...you got dropped illegally. Seemed legit in person. But to see it on television, looked like he was faking. But hearing everything that went down, fortunately there was no elbow or I guarantee if there was one...you would've seen a hundred plus people brawling like a mofo!
The Blue Horizon looked fun, we had/have a similar place in the UK, the York Hall. Any arena that lets me buy a pint while being (almost literally) within touching distance of the ring, is OK for boxing! Would have loved to have gone to a Caesars Palace outdoor arena fight, MSG, The Olympic Auditorium, Luna Park and Azteca for Chavez/Haugen.
