Only because he hasn't faced a real puncher like himself. His "strategy" would be useless there. The man's got great power and can land it. But let's not act like he's got some special skill. He's a got a special attribute, power.

I’ve never said or suggested Wilder is unbeatable. I’m suggesting the hypothetical fighter take is one that could be applied to any fighter that’s ever lived.

    1. no he's not. i'd argue he's no more powerful than wlad. wlad was just safety first.
    2. sure you do if you're fighting bums, journeymen and poor quality gatekeepers for the majority of your career. i'm not saying he has no skill, but it's all relative to the competition and the competition isn't there. tell me who his best win is apart from ortiz? lol.

    Ortiz isn’t a puncher?

Because he is a bad boxer. He's just a good puncher. People are upset because usually their heroes are guys with great skill who couldn't knock out a gnat and they think that's what boxing is. Usually, they are right. This turns the meta-narrative on it's head. A guy with no skill and lots of power is beating guys with much more skill. I think we need to acknowledge that half of boxing is physical talent and that if you have enough of it you can succeed despite some pretty glaring flaws in your skill set.

The one attribute many over look is Wilder's speed. He has deceptively quick hands. All that power is meaningless with out the speed to thread the needle and land.

I like Wilder but he didn't win a round and was well on his way to losing the 7th but pounced once Ortiz lost concentration. Well done to Wilder I say despite the criticism coming his way.

As an athlete Wilder is a freak, if you want to argue Wlad is a better athlete, so be it, I respectfully yet emphatically disagree.

Or that Ortiz is still an exemplary boxer and a solid counter puncher with great timing and would probably outbox most opponents at HW and possibly beat them.

He can punch for sure but I wouldn't say he's a great puncher. The strategy of constantly losing rounds and getting hit would fail miserably against a great puncher. The division is just weak.

Correct. I didn’t even see the right hand that knocked Ortiz out. I saw the jab feint and suddenly Ortiz was on the canvas. It wasn’t until I saw the replay that I truly understood how hard he had hit him with a short right hand.
