Wilder seems to be a late starter against skilled opponents but he carries his power late. Will someone that can take Wilder to the body shop and invest some shots to the body early and often be the key to taking the wind out of his sails? Wilder is a big tree to chop down but I have yet to see an opponent put the body work on him. Do you think sufficient body work could be Wilder's Achilles heel and the way to get to his questionable chin?
I have to see if Joshua can regain his confidence and chin after being dehumanized and emasculated by Ruiz and his sparring partners.
I would like to see a boxer fight Wilder like Bonecrusher Smith did v Tim Witherspoon in the second fight thay had. Could this be the way to beat Wilder? Smith took that fight on one week notice when Tubbs pulled out.
A boxer with a great chin and respectable power would definitely beat Wilder. The question is who fits that criteria? I think investing shots to the body could take away the threat of a big late shot.
I don't think he is ready for that challenge yet. He needs some quality competition under his belt before he gets thrown to the wolves.
The only guy I can think of historically who I might favour is Lewis Lewis said he would fight Wilder by coming in fast, not getting caught and taking Wilder out before he can bring the right hand into play. Lewis is the only guy with the skillset to attempt that Outside of that the man is simply unbeatable.
I think thats a mistake. Your better off slipping the right to the outside and dropping that left hook to the body. If DW feints the right hand and AJ commits hes going to find himself blasted by a left or right hook to the temple.
Yup. And its also why id favor Mike Tyson against DW. With that bob n weaving and monster hooks and uppercuts I think he gets to DW before DW gets to him.
As unskilled as Wilder is anyone with a granite chin would easily beat him. Tex cobb, George chuvalo instantly come to mind. Defense and head movement a young Mike Tyson destroys him. Wilder is far from unbeatable in my opinion.
one of the keys is to go to the body. another key is to stay inside as much as possible. rough him up. fight is fight...not day care....Golota. danger in getting inside...but once in, stay there and do damage. he is not a good inside fighter. the right hand is smothered up close. Also, rattle him psychologically. Speak trash to him throughout the buildup to the fight and in the clinches. He can be taken out of his comfort zone like almost any other fighter. remember...fighting is 90% mental. unnerve him....it has not been tried. sure he has a right hand. work on his mental state. yeah, it will fire him up emotionally. he goes into his fights being respected. make him uncomfortable. take him out of his zone. I don't mean by a little. do it by miles. you have to be smart and confident to do it. do it.
Ortiz isn't really that skilled. The key to beating Wilder is not being 50 and having some actual talent. Sadly I can't think of any current heavyweight who has any real talent. Or at least talent compared to the Lennox Lewis, Wladimir Klitscho, Holyfield or countless other guys from the 90's.
