Who has he ever fought? Seriously. A one armed, shot to bits George Groves who in his prime would have taken Smith to school.

The rest of his CV is full of absolute nobodies. One of the most padded records of any current world champion.

The problem is that he is not as good as people think he is and John Ryder exposed him last night luckily for smith it was in Liverpool so he got the decision because that was a terrible terrible decision. I also think his discipline is shocking in between fights and that is why he doesn’t fight often . The smith brothers are all overrated and always have been .

Because he is like the rest of the smiths BORING . Not one of them really world class and the only reason we talk about him is because he beat another vastly overrated fight in groves.

Ryder wasn’t hitting arms, he was smashing the body of smith around the guard and hitting him with some great shots on the inside. All while subtly dodging, blocking and stepping out of range of Smith’s shots.

Smith had a few moments but for the most part Ryder was pushing him back and doing some cracking work on the inside. Smith’s face was a mess compared and for good reason.

I don’t think it’s eddie Hearns fault Callum Smith is not likeable and that’s his problem also he sounds like a lazy fighter who doesn’t want to be active I mean how often do you really hear about him wanting these big fights apart from fight week . I watched him last night and the only thing he has going for himself at super mid is his size and power which will go away at light heavyweight. He beat up a very average fighter in George groves and suddenly he is the second coming and gonna beat everyone. He can say what he wants about last night but deep down he knows he got beat

Smith has had his profile raised after the Ryder fight but for all the wrong reasons.
I have yet to talk to anyone who has seen the fight give Smith the win but they all now know who he is.

If he had an ounce of self awareness he would have acknowledged that he was one lucky son of a ***** getting that win and if it was not for the fact that he is backed by Eddie and Sky he would be a former World champion.

I thought he was exposed the other night. Fair enough he mightn’t have been as motivated as he could have been, but imagine if that had been Canelo in there with him when he was backed up against the ropes.
I’ve never been wholly convinced about him.

    Matchroom's chain of thought...

Callum isn't popular enough, despite him winning the 168 WBSS and becoming GBP/Ring Magazine champ.
    Controversy sells, look at Canelo.
Start giving Smith blatant wide scores in fights he arguably lost and make him a star.

I think gallachers part of the problem. Hes always been the same...his guys never really want to prove themselves at a certain level. Mostly go in against low risk opponents trying to talk themselves into big money fights without really earning them.

The problem with that is he doesnt really want to give other guys the same oppertunities against his guys.

Always tries to go for the path of least resistance to get there. Hence the reason he went a record number of fights unbeaten as a coach....mainly because his guys were fighting guys they,d beat easily.

Its actually quite shrewd what they do. Talk themselves into a big fight without needing to actually really prove themselves. Could say but he fought groves. But getting into the wbss was the cash out. Their was a lot of money on offer in that tournament.

Callum smith if he is as good as they say he is...needs to prove it...by giving ryder a rematch...fighting say eubank junior, billy joe saunders other beltholders in his division...then he can talk about canelo and golovkin.

Look at josh taylor for example... instead of just saying hes the best is actually going out and proving it with hard fights from early. You never hear him say he cant get up for it cause the levels below him. Keep hearing how good callum smith is....but lets actually prove it in the same fashion taylors doing it.

Eubank Jnr will uppercut his head off. 'Mongo' wouldn't be able to keep him at distance
