Bruno vs Cooney

I'd venture to say this one doesn't go past 6 either way. Who goes down?

I think most likely it's Cooney.

Before the Holmes fight and Gerry's heavy drinking, I'll take Cooney by ko in about 5

 

Bruno in 2. Only because Cooney was a chinless lilly livered bum.

Tyson and Lewis couldn't stop him 1, but the legendary Gerry Cooney would... makes sense...

 

Cooney hit harder than those guys. He was also much more aggressive than Lewis. Tyson was a midget who Bruno could use his size against, at least for awhile.

 

Tough fight to pick. Cooney to me was a bit overrated against the top guys and Bruno was a level below the top guys also. Cooney had the one punch power and Bruno had strength and good power. I pick Cooney in 4 or 5.. or Bruno in 8.. This is a tough fight to pick.

Bruno wouldn't go out in 1, he may be rocked in the first round or so but while he was fresh he'd survive. Cooney starts getting whacked in the face by Bruno s Jab and looks a little beaten up around the face. The end comes suddenly when Frank connects with meaty over hand right that has Cooney on baby giraffe legs.
Short but entertaining dramatic fight.

I lean toward Bruno.

 

It depends which Cooney. The one who fought Holmes, Norton, Lyle, Young, Dino Dennis, I think would beat Bruno. The post Holmes Cooney would lose. The rehabilitated version that Foreman is a pick em.

 

I think Frank's jab sets the tone early. And Cooney waits around trying to solve it instead of trying to get his pound of flesh.

And the Cooney defense is not good enough to do that. The other factor is Bruno can hurt guys with both hands and Gerry is all left hook and left uppercut.

Cooney in his prime was a beast, hes underrated, then he became a drug addict.

 

Great fight. Strong case either way. I lean slightly towards Bruno.
