This content is protected Bill Tate who was a professional fighter himself was 6'6.5 " and 220-245 and fought Sam Langford 9 times. He was a usual sparring partner for Dempsey, and as you can see Bill was 2x more athletic and mobile than Wilder and Dempsey had no problem closing in on him with ease and could have knocked him out cold if he wanted to.
lol, Wilder is far better than this clown, Wilder controls fighters with his lead hand and had much faster hands than this guy he would also have thrown more shots and could have taken Dempsey out with one shot.
Bill Tate didn't hit as hard as Wilder. Here's how I think the fight would go: Wilder Knocks him out. Cold.
This video is made on much higher speed than it was in reality - that's the reason why Bill Tate look so fast and mobile.
Wilder vs Dempsey? Really? You’re better off comparing Dempsey and Ward. Wilder would hurt Dempsey really bad, as would most heavies after the 40s or so.
Damn , this fight would be a shoot out Wilder would have to make it through some powerful shots early on to figure out dempsey This fight would have moments where dempsey would be landing heavy shots snapping on wilder close to stopping him early on . Dempsey likes to get right to business If wilder makes it past the heavy lightning shots from Dempsey he stops jack later on Wilder late KO in a highly competitive shootout with both fighters hurting each other
Instead of Smart Phones they had Pocket Watches to fiddle with... the beginning looks like footage from a Roman Empire stadium! Everything about people has been altered by technology...
I forgot that Big Bill Tate his sparring partner was 6'6". Dempsey reminded me more of Tyson in that footage than in any footage I've seen him in before. Makes me almost believe all the old timer hype. Anyway, if he couldn't be a successful heavyweight today he still has the makings of a top cruiserweight.
Dempsey should be given his due as he was perhaps the first "modern" HW champ. If you watch film of Dempsey and film of HWs who came before him, I think you will see Dempsey looking a lot more like a modern fighter in terms of technique and agression. He brought that to the game. This has been acknowledged by Mike Tyson no less who has stated on more than one occasion he modeled certain aspects of his style and demeanor after Dempsey. That being said, I think Wilder knocks Dempsey out cold. The game.has progressed as has sports science in general. Dempsey was a talented and tough guy no doubt though. His toughness came from experiences most of today's fighter could not imagine. He was a product of his times. If he was around today physically, he would not be the same guy as the experiences that forged that toughness and determination would not have been there.
Not many people beat Dempsey 200lbs or below. Marciano vs Dempsey is a dream fight. Dempsey vs Holyfield. Etc.
