Look, he's great, but he's not that great. Old timers truly were better having faced top opponents more often and in their primes. There was only ever one champion and winning in multiple weight divisions was a marvelous feat.
There is nobody alive right now from that era of boxing stop it, every top fighter that you might have actually had a chance to see live competed in an era with at least 3 titles..do i think Mayweather is TBE no but if you break it down seriously instead of like a Mayweather detractor an argument can be made for top 10 or so
He has to be considered at the very least. People like to talk a lot of trash but the guy was defensivley brilliant, countered with underrated solid, accurate shots, had limitless stamina, great movement, an iron chin, could fight inside and out, coukd lead when needed, could adapt mid fight. I mean honestly, yes there are a couple of fights that could have happened at better times but overall he fought basically everyone, went up multiple divisions, reigned for ages and didnt have any slip ups. The guy is a bit of an insecure guy outside of the ring and can act foolishly at times but if you are hating on his career accomplishments you are just biased.
TBE at negotiating. TBE at taking fights on his term TBE at having the highest connect % per compubox or punchstats- as accurate or inaccurate as they are, Those #'s tell the story. TBE at having the lowest connect % by his foe per compubox or punchstats- as accurate or inaccurate as they are, Those #'s tell the story. Tossup between him and RJJ at Pot-shotting. Probably TBE at staying athletic& maintaining health, many fighters lose their physique as they age, Floyd was the ultimate disciple of discipline. He loses badly in the golden era because he has proven he can't fight/function without hand injections. Had he fought during the 1920s-1960s his hands fails him. He likes $ so he would have to fight like everyone else (often) If he fought 150, I'd say he'd retire 140-7-3 Loses to Robinson, Armstrong, Burley, Zivac for sure. A case can be made that Floyd is the greatest of his era, not the TBE.
So what? They still achieved better and more difficult feats of boxing. You may not like it but it's the harsh truth, there are still fighters capable of being great, in fact all time greats. Up there as one of the best ever. But still fighters are more and more often taking the safe route instead of being the best they could be by challenging themselves against seemingly impossibly difficult tasks.
