Because he had power and skills, even though he was older. He also got dominated by him in sparring 3 years earlier which must have scared him.
Its an open secret that Wilder fared very poorly in sparring against Klitschko. Wlad was too technically sound for Wilder and unlike Fury for instance, Wlad could make you pay, seriously, after he makes you miss. it would have been a fight where wilder only had the old punchers chance, klitschko was fairly old though and it was safer to just wait him out. Wilder was brought up very well, do you think he would be where he is today if he had been laid out by Wlad in 2015?
Thats because Wlad is the better boxer and Wilder was there as a pupil , not as an opponent. If Wilder tried to take Wlads head off like he would do in a real fight he'd quickly be sent home. It was a learning experience. Its amazing how many people don't understand the concept of sparring. Josha was reportedly handled during the sparring sessions too. How did the real fight turn out...
Theres tough sparring then theres what happened to wilder. He took a beating which is why he wanted no part of him mate. Wlad aint no pillow fists fury and wilder cant slow a fight down to 5 jabs a round like fury. It would have been night night.
How do you know he wanted no part of him? Wlad never sent him an offer nor did he try to make the fight happen. He never turned down the fight because the fight was never on the table. Forget what Shelly Finkel said. Shelly Finkel said time and time again that Eddie and Joshua wanted no part of Wilder. Do you believe that too?
Yes i belive him on both. Wlad was all wrong for Wilder, Wilder is all wrong for AJ, they arent mutually exclusive. By the way i think wilder knocks out the distracted version of wlad that Fury faced, but thats only in hindsight.
Vlad's talked about sparring with Wilder. He rated Wilder as not so good a boxer but with great power. No shocker there. Wilder's team brought him up slowly and did not take many chances. Wilder might be peaking now or close to it. I'm sure the thinking at the time was Wilder was not yet ready for Vlad. If anything, Wilder's success is reaffirmation of the wisdom of bringing up a raw talent like Wilder slowly, letting him learn and develop along the way. His team has done a good job of helping Wilder get where he is today.
That sounds like a cop-out answer to me. If Wilder is prepared to fight Joshua then he would've been prepared to fight Klitschko. All Finkel said was Wilder wasn't going to rush into a fight with Klitschko. He never said it wouldn't happen. At that time nobody thought he was going to lose to Fury so they would've thought there was plenty of time to make the fight. in 2015 there was no offer made to Wilder so how is is possible he ducked a fight that was never there?
