Since according to Rocky Marciano fans size doesn't matter and Rocky could beat guys who were 6' inches plus taller than him and 50 pounds heavier than him. Could Roy Jones Jr beat Marciano? Rocky Marciano lost to Ted Lowry a 160-170 pound guy who had a record of 70 wins and 68 loses. Wouldn't logic dictate that Roy Jones Jr the superior fighter to Lowry would have a easier time? According to people ring side Lowry almost knocked out Rocky Marciano. If Lowry could almost knock out Marciano then Roy Jones Jr would. Rocky Marciano 180 lbs beat Ted Lowry 178 lbs by UD in round 10 of 10 Date: 1949-10-10 Location: Rhode Island Auditorium, Providence, Rhode Island, USA Referee: Ben Maculan See also: Rocky Marciano vs. Ted Lowry (2nd meeting) Michael J. Thomas of the Providence Journal wrote, "Marciano did not win the fight. This reporter gave it to Lowry, six rounds to four.” The crowd of 3,696 booed the decision and some wondered if Lowry had thrown the fight. "There were some questions as to whether Lowry, who had come close to knocking out Marciano in the second, third and fourth rounds, deliberately bogged down in his attack after the fourth stanza," Thomas wrote. "Lowry stopped using his uppercut after the fourth. He went into a shell and only occasionally landed power shots. He seemed to be carrying Marciano." In his book Rocky Marciano: The Rock of His Times, Russell Sullivan wrote the following: "It was Lowry, not Marciano, who was on the verge of scoring an early knockout, stinging Marciano with two terrific rights in the first round and then rocking him with two mighty uppercuts in the second. By the fourth, a staggered Marciano seemed just one punch away from being knocked out. But then, inexplicably, Lowry stopped fighting and retreated into a shell despite warnings from the referee to open up and a cascade of boos from the crowd. To many, it appeared that Lowry was deliberately carrying Marciano. Was foul play afoot? Was Lowry getting paid to lose? Or was he merely tiring? Whatever the reason, a revived Marciano managed to rally in the late rounds even though many of his punches missed their mark or lacked force. On the basis of his aggressiveness and constant punching, Marciano won a unanimous decision from the judges. Most observers felt, however, that Lowry should have won." Lowry, who earned $2,500 for the fight, denied he threw the fight. "I beat Rocky that night and that’s it," he said. "He changed his strategy in the fifth round and made a fight of it, but I won two of the last six rounds after winning the first four. It was a hometown decision."
I know what the point of this thread is. But **** it I'll bite. Roy Jones dazzles Marciano with his speed, catching him with feints and straight leads, winning rounds and punishing the Rock with lengthy combinations and making him look foolish. Then he wakes up in a hospital bed 3 days later asking what round it is. Marciano KO3 or less.
I remember when Glen Johnson knocked Jones out. I was genuinely scared, that I had just seem Roy Jones killed! I could see this fight ending in a similar way!
yes, it is a very difficult choice! This is almost as good as my Marciano vs DLH thread! This should all teach us valuable lessons about boxing! Bring on the PAIN! here it is for those who need to learn!!! Size matters!!!! It matters a lot! It is the only thing that matters!!!! Yeah booooyyyyyy!!!!! We now know that most of Roy Jones' greatness came form chemical enhancement. He failed a test, showing testosterone levels several times higher than normal, and in the early days of PEDs use awareness in boxing, it was covered up. Sorry. but that is the truth.
Rocky Marciano KO 1 Carl Childers/Black Hercules father then f*cks his mother and she loves it. All achieved weighing under 185 lbs, 150 of which are his steel testicles.
And that's the thing. There are a lot of guys that I'd pick over Marciano over a short haul. Heck, I might even go with that old post that was made about Kovalev vs Marciano and say that Kovalev had a decent chance vs Marciano over 6 rounds. The problem is that Marciano was a very physical, relentless fighter and that the damage stacked up fast when fighting him. Guys that looked good in round 1-2 were looking like dog**** by round 10 and that's when Rocky was getting warmed up. I can't see RJJ getting though a fight with Marciano without getting caught somewhere along the line when he'd started to slow down, and at that point its kind of over.
It's funny but I can even see Rocky in my mind, just relentless and getting out boxed against Jones, then BANG, he'd throw a looping punch from nowhere and drop him so hard.
