Could go either way, I think Ruiz will eventually get to him though. Think it will be later than last time with Ruiz potentially trailing on the scorecards. The style is just all wrong for AJ.
If Ruiz wins once again then I will of course pay my respect to him. But how that is better for boxing is beyond me? A morbidly obese, low IQ idiot who can't put together a coherent sentence and comes off as a complete simpleton is a horrific prospect for the premier division of our sport. He would do a lot of long-term damage by turning people off and turning professional boxing into a circus show if God forbid he managed to string together a series of wins. Boxing to me as a fan is about discipline, hard work, dedication, ambition and grueling pain. Ruiz displays none of that, in fact he makes a mockery of the sport. Imagine if Tony Galento won against Louis. When asked how he prepared for the fight Galento told reporters he ate two plates of spaghetti with meatballs and downed them with 3 pitchers of beer. Would that also have been better for boxing in 1939? Here we are, 80 years later.
The only way Joshua can win is on points which is a possibility if he uses spoiling tactics. There is absolutely no way he will knockout Ruiz, that guy has an amazing chin.
I reckon Joshua might make it a bit of a jab fest, keeping his range (see his style vs Joseph Parker), especially if he's a bit more mobile with the weight loss. Let's see if the ref gives him a helping hand (and kills the fight, as Giuseppe Quartarone did) if Ruiz takes it on the inside!
Ruiz is a human being, and yes he has a great chin. But, anyone can be knocked out - and as we all know, AJ can bang! Take into account the following; What if Ruiz gasses? Sure, he has a good engine - but we've seen him gassing before! Sustained Damage. Ruiz can be hit - how many big shots can he take off one of the divisions biggest hitters? Shot placement. See Whyte vs Chisora II - Chisora is known to be extremely durable and was never KO'd. But when hit right on the button by Whyte, bam baby goodnight. Bare in mind that the shots Ruiz took after round 3 were from an AJ who's equilibrium was shattered, he was drained and there was nothing on the end of his punches.. this time around, AJ will be fresh, focused and improved. AJ KO between rounds 6-10
You're full of it. For a start the guys not morbidly obese, he is fitter than most you'd find in any commercial gym and probably less fat than the average American. He actually has a very high IQ in the ring which does translate into other intelligence as it requires the brain to process complex information quickly and make the right decision in a split second hence why he's never been KO'd in how many fights through Am to pro. Also when you hear him speak it's in his second language as I doubt you understand Spanish so have some of that. You then go on with some obscure reference to a comment made by a boxer in regards to his lifestyle which doesn't appear to have any relevant context. And is A 'juicing/superior race' J really better for boxing, I don't believe so.
Each fighter has advantages over the other in certain areas: Joshua's power advantage is matched by Ruiz's chin advantage and Ruiz's countering advantage (punch you don't see coming hurts you more) Joshua's reach and jab advantages are matched by Ruiz's countering advantage For Joshua to throw a jab, he risks getting hit with a hook or overhand he doesn't see, and the same if he throws the 1-2. That is not a good exchange for Josh. See clip below for first time Joshua snaps Ruiz's head back with jab in Rd 1 then eats the overhand in return: This content is protected Interestingly when Joshua actually got to Ruiz, it was on the inside! Everyone saying AJ needs to keep it long could well be mistaken. Ruiz got knocked down when AJ came in to clinching distance with his guard high and somehow Ruiz was confused by this and thought he was in a clinch or something and basically left himself open to give Joshua 2-3 free punches on him! See clip below for that in slo motion: This content is protected Ruiz should really be switched on to the fact he can't give Joshua those free punches on the inside this time, and if so fatty has the advantage IMO.
This fight will not be a Floyd Patterson vs Ingemar Johannson, June 20 1960 moment for Anthony Joshua. Andy will make a few adjustments to counteract Joshua's possible changes. A knockout loss that devastating has to weigh heavily on the deposed ex champion's mind, leaving the door open to self doubt. Ruiz repeats his performance by a TKO 8. Ruiz is the quieter fighter which indicates confidence, Joshua is more verbal, which indicates a very uncertain fighter, trying to convince himself.
Hmmmm. I'm pretty sure Ruiz trains hard and is disciplined about his training. You don't develop those boxing skills and endurance without training hard. He just doesnt look the part. Who cares though. A victory by Ruiz is a victory of substance over flash. Joshua more looking the part than being the part. I think you are missing one important point though. There are a lot of Mexican and Mexican-American boxing fans. They support the sport and have a lot to do with keeping the sport alive in the US. Ruiz, being of Mexican descent gives that fan base something to cheer for and support at HW. I'm not sure that's bad for the sport. Maybe in England it is but not everywhere.
