To anyone who has never set foot inside the ring, the stick and move may look easy. Go down to your local boxing gym, learn a basic jab, then give it a go If you don't do it well, you will get walked down and KTFO within a minute. I'm not saying it's the pinnacle of boxing excellence, to me a mix of not getting hit (evasive skills) along with intelligent aggression (the ability to engage effectively with combinations and not be easily countered) is the pinnacle (e..g Lomachenko, prime Pacman) It's not right to dismiss AJ's performance as easy and chickeny
Yeah of course it is the cheapest and easiest way to defeat a 5,11 overweight midget. Klitschko did the same but at least he attempted to ko the guys in the later rounds.
I completely adore that AJ showed us he can stick and move for 12 rounds, that he has the stamina to do that for 12 rounds. That he has the discipline and the skill to implement a successful and winning game-plan. He sent a message to future opponents with this, it said you can't just wait for him to tire or slow down and KO him like some one trick mediocre fighter. AJ is not only world class but also a world class mindset.
It's not easy at all, but it helps when your opponent is lugging 30-40lb of flab with obvious physical disadvantages in height and reach. Joshua can stick and move tho, and spoil inside.
It was easy physically for him the hard part was mentally.. Physically he knew what he had to do he was fighting a much shorter opponent so all he had to do was perfect the jab and grab.. Mentally he might have wanted to go off course and throw in some hooks and uppercuts and finish off his opponent.. I’m sure in his mind he looks at himself and look at Andy and thinks there is no way he shouldn’t be able to KO this fat guy but he had to tel himself stick to the gameplan.. Wlad has the same problem which is why it took about 3 fights for him to perfect that style but he and AJ have a similar build and style.. People forget Wlad had to lose muscle also to improve his stamina..
Joshua did what he had to do in a rematch where previously his opponent had flattened him. My only concern from Joshua having gone through that experience is that he will now turn into the second coming of Wladimir Klitchko, a fighter timid in every way where anytime he faces an opponent with enough power to put a dent here and there, he's going to fight cautiously, timidly, and turn fights against even some C leve opposition into borefests. Great fighters don't fight timid, so hopefully Joshua doesn't now turn into that.
I think he boxed wisely and avoided mixing it up which is not fan friendly but fans don’t feel the pain
The Blobs no1 strength is all the fat gives his brain a nice soft cushion so there was no point trying to ko him..
AJ is kidding himself if he feels he can adopt the Klitshko approach against Fury or Wilder. Wilder is not scared of rolling the dice and taking risks to land that right hand. Opponents have prepared for it but it eventually gets there once and that is all that is needed
O Of course it takes good timing and Good stamina, but come on, Joshua is an elite athlete standing at 6'6 against a 6 footer, with slower movement. It should not of been hard to do especially with an olympic gold medal to your name.
