So what is holding up Wilder v Fury 2 being annouced?

The date was set. The venue more or less set. Most the time rival promoters like to use big fight weeks to announce their own shows...

yet silence. Two and a bit months doesn't seem too early to announce a fight does it?

 

This happened before the first fight if I remember right?

 

Everything seems to be going ahead to be fair, no negative stuff coming out from either side. It’s happening.

 

I just can’t see Fury fighting in February.

 

Happened before the first fight and with the Ortiz rematch as well. Think they're just sorting an arena. It's on BoxRec which is at least encouraging

 

It feels like Haymon might be the issue. Two days ago he had the possibility of making Wilder Ruiz II for every belt. Now he’s in danger of seeing the one title he has vanish.

The way I look at the fights which are possible, you have to consider who benefits from them.

Joshua Fury makes sense for both. It’s the biggest payday for both, for three world titles, has been talked about for years and would break records. Joshua will look at Fury as a guy with low output, who can struggle at times with those willing to let their hands go and can be dropped. Fury will look at Joshua as a guy who can be outboxed comfortably over twelve.

Joshua Wilder makes more sense for Wilder. A chance to unify against a guy who can be badly hurt by lesser punches. It’s a risk for Joshua but one he’d almost certainly take.

But Wilder Fury; what’s in this for Wilder? No belt. No massive money, certainly not when compared to a Joshua fight. Fury knows he can win. And even if he loses he still gets the Joshua fight.

 

Lots of money and the belief he can knock Fury out. Plus the fact it’s been ordered by the WBC.

 

I still think it will happen, don’t get me wrong. But I’m really not sure Wilder Fury does as much money as some make out, (their first fight was hardly a major success and fights since have largely bombed), and Haymon has to be nervous. Fury brings great reward for Joshua. Does he do the same for Wilder?

 

We've seen Fury and Joshua both having to re-adjust after experiencing problems from fighters that were not supposed to give them. If I was Wilder I'd be trying to unify. He's not needed to adjust anything. Comes in spot on for every fight and if he believes he can do it then he should be prompting Haymon to get it done.

 

75 days out. You’d expect them to be in camp already and announcements made. Especially with Fury fans having to travel.

 

I was surprised they didnt announce it on joshua ruiz fight week.

 

I honestly think Haymon was expecting a Ruiz Jnr win and was looking to make the Undisputed unification fight with Wilder. Fury would of accepted a lovely backhander to step aside and then fought the winner in late 2020. I’m sure the rematch will be announced very soon but I’m expecting it to be in March/April

 

Some people have said this fight is seriously, seriously massive.

Seems a very short period of time to promote it. Odd time too. Big summer or autumn build up usually works. Give the fighters time to do a few bits of promotional work, maybe a few city tours before they go into full training. Not leaving much time at all, especially given you’re writing pretty much two weeks off over Christmas.

Ten weeks this Saturday supposedly...

 

I can't see it happening in February either. Hope I'm wrong.
