Ruiz played the role of a punching bag. Except a very slow one. And one that punches back even less than most walking punching bags. No attempt to cut the ring or get inside. Literally none. Ruiz, not Joshua, made the fight absolutely dreadful. It's not up to Joshua to take risks or throw flashy punches. He fought like a robot, just one with reverse as a gear and one unwilling to exchange. Which is exactly how he should have to win.

I’d say Joshua Ruiz but more due to the fact it didn’t have much action in whereas canelo kovalevs at least had a ko and some sort of action throughout

Canelo vs Kovalev was more disappointing.

Kovalev was beaten before the fight even started due to the timing of it and the weight clauses. I expected Canelo to win. The fact that Kovalev was winning at the 11th shows what would have happened without the age gap, weight clauses and a proper rest from the bruising Yarde fight. It shows the state of boxing where a deck can be stacked to manufacture a victory. The sadness is greater than just seeing the fighter I was rooting for, lose, its an indictment of the fight game as a whole.

Ruiz was also disappointing in that that fat slob had endless time to get ready and throw down. He could have come in faster and lighter at a relatively trim 250 or less. Instead he let both himself and the people that were rooting for him down by hoovering down every taco within a 10 mile radius and getting spanked. Everybody and their cousin knew (or should have known) that AJ was going to execute the Klitschko template and that a porker with no footspeed was a dead duck. He could have been a savage wild boar and forced the pace, but instead came in like Porky Pig. Ruiz blew it.

Both fights are close in their disappointment level, tbh.

Canelo vs Kovalev - When fighters touch gloves at the end of each round you should know something is up.
