Jaime Garza was being hyped like crazy, then one loss and a slow fade into obscurity.

Cheers Mate, I think I’m on the right reply here!!
I can’t remember regarding the Kaylor fight. However I do remember Drayton was regarded as virtually no more than a journeyman who would give Kaylor a decent test. It transpired that he decimated Kaylor! It was a bad knockout.
I think the Collins people must have thought Sibson would come back over the Atlantic first up after the Hagler loss, washed up and unmotivated, what a shock they must of got!
We all know that when Tony was motivated and on top form he could be devastating which poor Collins found out the hard way that night!

Highly touted Chicago amateur star Alan Moody with a pro record of 26-1 being kayoed by the relatively light punching Del Flanagan in seven rounds on September 16, 1953.

Jose Baret was a hard punching up and comer with a record of 16-0 (15 KOs) but fought so-so opposition until he ran into Marlon Starling, who pretty much just took him apart and was never the same anymore.

I doubt it counts, but Burnett vs Donaire is one for sure. Literally ended his career.

Flo, you beat me to it. Baret was known - before the Starling fight - as Jose 'The Threat' Baret. After the Starling fight every scribe was taking shots at him calling him Jose 'Not Yet' Baret and Jose 'No Sweat' Baret. I think he subsequently got stopped by Mayweather's old man before packing it in.

Francisco Bojado was heavily hyped as a young fighter. Had a Showtime contract from early on, was managed by Shelley Finkel and had a very impressive amateur career for one so young. I can't remember but I've a feeling he even appeared on the front page of one of the major boxing magazines as a can't miss prospect.

He built a solid resume and some decent looking stoppages against ordinary opponents but inexplicably failed every time he stepped up in class. First Juan Rubio outpointed him, then an ancient Jesse James Leija turned the trick and finally Steve Forbes sent him into retirement.

He did beat Rubio soundly in a return but the Leija loss seemed to effect him even more. He didn't fight after that one for nigh on 3 years subsequently and his career was by and large a total bust.

Wesley Mouzon was one of the hottest prospects going, even stopping reigning lightweight champ Bob Montgomery in 8 rounds of a non-title. That win set him up for a title fight with the Bobcat, but Montgomery KO'd Mouzon in 8 rounds in the return. It was Mouzon's last fight as he was diagnosed with a detached retina. Game over at 19 years of age.
