It was Ali Spinks 2 for me and I remember hating Ali for all the cheating he did. I really hated the way he held Spinks head down with his forearm all fight long. But I was a kid and didn't really know what I was watching or how inconsistently boxing is officiated.
Haye-Valuev was the first boxing match I properly watched and remember. Yeah I'm kind of a newb. Got into boxing late, used to watch Pride, K1 as a kid rather than boxing.
Has to be a Tyson fight....... First fight I remember watching live and actively paying attention and watching with a vested interest was Tyson/Lewis. We ordered the fight and literally the whole block was in my house watching that fight. Those days are long gone... That kind of stuff doesn't happen anymore.
I was 18 when I watched it. I was in 1st year at uni but having a reunion with school friends. We all went out and got hammered before the fight. Myself and another are the only ones who watched the fight. The other 3 or 4 passed out. I think it was round 8 where we finally accepted Hatton was getting beat.
MAB upsetting Naz. My older cousin had put a big bet on MAB and was laughed at down his gym as they all though MAB's best days were already behind him and Hamed was the second coming. To say he was happy with how the fight turned out is a huge understatement.
The earliest fight where I remember watching all of it was Jim Watt v Charlie Nash. I recall seeing bits of Ali v Leon Spinks a few years earlier
We have something in common, that was also the first fight I remember watching, at least paying some close attention to. I saw it on ABC sports, and it most likely was a replay of the fight that had occurred maybe a few days or weeks after it actually happened. I was 10 years old at the time and my impression of the fight was that Spinks was the aggressor and Ali was finding ways to avoid that aggression and not really there to fight. Having seen the fight as an adult, of course I can see the nuances that Ali brought to the table that fight. His jabs and counters off of Spinks aggression, thought I do think the fight was a lot more competitive than the scores indicated. Ali-Spinks was my first memory of watching a boxing match. The first fight I ever watched from start to finish was Leonard-Hearns. The reason I'm still a fan today was all the big fights on Network TV that I watched as a teenager growing up, particulary Alexis Arguello fights on CBS.
I was about 11, and had a neighbor who was 15 and used to box (he was NZ national champ) I went and watched him fight. He had great head movement, and I thought it was so cool being able to make people miss with their punches. I remember he lost the fight I watched, and I couldn’t understand why. ‘But he dodged more punches!!’ I yelled out after the decision haha. I was hooked and started boxing the next week.
