I have to say, Wilder hits harder than Andy. But as intimated by others above, Joshua might or might not find a foil for it. It's just...as soon as AJ drops that left after throwing the jab...does anyone really think he could take that shot flush and go on much longer? I remember the first time I heard Deontay's right compared to Shavers, I scoffed. After watching the fights, I'm not so quick to laugh... Wilder hits Joshua flush and AJ goes unconscious imo. There might be an excellent boxing exhibition before that, but I don't think Anthony has the chin or heart. I like Fury less, but even he got up (and I believe TF would have gotten up and even perhaps beaten Ruiz). But AJ? Put it this way: I'd love to be proven wrong by Anthony. I do really like him (certainly better than Fury, who I personally thought lost to Wilder). But Deontay is going to pull a Weaver-Tate on him, imo.
Yeh, because coming in hard like Breazeale worked so well for him. Wilder, is gonna love that strategy. He would leave AJ splattered on the canvas, short and sweet, but I would imagine thats the last plan on the table in a Wilder fight. AJ, won’t be looking to engage. He’ll be fighting timid for sure. Eddie, will do all he can to protect AJ. Dream all you want, a Wilder fight isn’t likely.
Did everyone forget that DAZN offered Wilder the deal, Joshua didn't. And DAZN can't make anyone (namely Joshua) fight anyone they (DAZN) want him (Joshua) to fight? AND did everyone conveniently forget that Wilder never would've fought Joshua this year HAD HE SIGNED THE DEAL because Joshua got dropped four times and quit against Ruiz and then demanded an immediate rematch with Ruiz? So Wilder would've sat on the shelf for basically the whole year because there was no Joshua to fight? Wilder has done fine. He made $10 million scoring a highlight reel one round KO over Breazeale and $20 million scoring a one-punch highlight reel KO over Ortiz. And he has Fury II in the spring. Wilder isn't locked in to a DAZN deal waiting while Joshua now defends against Pulev. And Wilder and Joshua can still fight down the road. It's not like this matchup is depreciating in value. Wilder is making good decisions. If the other champions can just successfully defend a title once in a while, maybe they could get this show on the road. Or will Joshua get knocked out by Pulev and we spend 2020 waiting for Joshua to RECLAIM the belts again?
Well if Wilder gets a 3 fight deal for $120mil with DAZN and doesn't end up fighting Joshua then $120mil is still $120mil, It's win win for him, either he gets $120mil and the fight for undisputed he says he wants or he gets $120mil (generously that would be double what he is currently getting) for doing what he is already doing. I think one of the excuses they gave for not taking the deal is that they weren't privy to how much Joshua was getting for the fight, the other being Joshua wasn't guaranteed in the deal. Obviously that statement is contradictory so at this point I guess the only people that know the real reason the offer was turned down are Wilder, Finkle, Haymon, etc. As for the reasons it was turned down we can only speculate but we know pretty much for sure that the offer was turned down.
Disclaimer I have not seen the fight from the other day but based on everybody’s descriptions AJ has brought a new wrinkle into the conversation if he can move all night and not gas. If he can stick to a disciplined game plan like that he will definitely clown Wilder, inevitably setting up what I know is enough power to make the chicken legs go all stank
I think his best plan would be to insist on separate rings. The best strategy is as much distance as possible.
I don't think AJ should try and box him, I think he's better off jumping on him fast and early. Let's not forget AJ punches really hard too and Wilder will go if it by his shots IMO. Yes it's a risky challenge but so is sticking and moving for 12 rounds. Pounce on him early and try to really rough him up and take it to him.
AJ’s gameplan is to price himself out of any potential fight with Wilder. It’s working well. Strange that Wilder and Fury can set up 2 fights with relative ease, but when dealing with AJ all we hear about is contract disputes and ‘the A-side’
AJ will fight easy ones and retire by 2021 without fighting Wilder. Honestly I would not blame him if he stay away from Wilder and do easy money fights. At this point in his career it will be all business than the actual Sport.
Wilder has taken Ortiz best punches without going down. David Haye who sparred with Wilder has confirmed Wilder has a very decent chin. Running straight to Wilder will be suicide for AJ who has very well known punch resistance issues, it will be a repeat of the Wilder Brazzeale ko
