How do you see this match up play out? Can the constant pressure of Fenech trouble and overwhelm Rigo or could Rigo's defense, sharp counters, and power give Fenech a run for his money? Might have to think hard on this one.
Rigo getting overrated here. He's very good H2H, but Fenech mauls him in the end. Reference - samart payakaroon bout. Rigo never fought a style like Fenech's at such a high level. We literally don't know the full extent of his abilities. He was pretty 1 dimensional, and Fenech wasn't exactly a moron himself. Rigo also wasn't the sturdiest, and Fenech is maybe the strongest man you can get at this weight class. Best case for Rigo is he goes totally defensive and goes the distance. He would have some success early though.
Rico by stoppage in 8. It would like look the second Nelson fight 1 counterpunch early drops Fenech then he drops again and then he is laid out. Only if he doesn't quit first. Which I believe there is a very good chance of.
I seem to remember Rigo being the quitter out of these two fighters. Fenech had his flaws ( like being susceptible to a right hand counter over his sometimes lazy jab ) but being a quitter wasn’t one of them. Rigo on the other hand straight up quit against Lomachenko. Fenech was one of those swarming types who liked facing movers and boxer types who lacked power. I would have put my money on him to wear Rigondeaux down and stop him in a fifteen rounder at 122. Cheers All.
Yeah, I can't see Rigo winning. Even though he was superb against Donaire, the Fenech that destroyed Payakaroon would overwhelm Rigo late, and Rigo probably quits in the end. I'd only favor Gomez over Fenech at 122.
Fenech. Rigo, though very skilled with the left hand is a bit one-dimensional which you don’t often associate with someone considered so skilled and with that amateur pedigree. Fenech would take him out of his comfort zone and as we’ve seen with Rigo he doesn’t even need to be in pain to give in. He’d probably quit in the late rounds once he realizes he can’t win on points. That’s what he did with Loma. Realized he’s 7 points down after 6 so quit. Speaks volumes of his mentality.
Jeff Fenech would never ever ever ever quit. He took enormous pride in his own three losses he was ko and went out on his shield.
