First if all I'm not looking for mythical matchups like Ali vs Tyson. I'm talking about fights that were never made because of certain reasons during the same time 1) Tyson vs toney at hw. Back when toney was trained by Freddie roach, and Tyson was fighting mamouth sized huge heavyweights. Instead of putting heavy work on Mike, they could've put him in there with someone his own size who wasn't a superheavyweight that could just wear him down with size alone. 2) Mosley vs jmm. This would have been a trear for the fans at welterweight, 2 all time greats at the end of their career. 3)cotto vs hatton. Lemme tell you why this great fight never came in to fruition: after hatton was starched by pac he was ruined. An obese alcoholic, self- cutter, coke snorting beer drinking, black out for a couple of days, suicidal not believing in himself anymore. This fight really drained him psychologically, he got hit in the chin and he never recoverd. That, paired with the previous loss to pbfm sent him spiraling into a depression. I hope he's ok now (God bless) 4) cotto vs de la Hoya. Why this fight never happened is beyond me,? 5) margarito vs Floyd. Floyd specifically told Margo that he would give him a chance. The fact that he didn't give him the fight is why it never happened. Floyd was flirting with retirement and a prime Marg was busting up fools left and right. I guess Floyd noticed that and stayed clear from him and his wraps. A big up to the great Paul Williams; he beat a prime margarito with plaster in his hands. For ring magazine ran a what if? Article of money vs sugar as a competitive match MUST understand that when you talk about Mayweather vs Ray, that means Pacquiao can belong in the mythical conversation. He went twelve hard rounds against pretty boy with a damaged shoulder, and still didn't hang from his jockstrap. That is the reason why I put pac v s the sugar man a 50/50 fight. However when Ray beat hearns his wife had never seen that look in his eye before! The eye of the tiger!
Lmao this list is wack Lewis vs Bowe Klitschko vs Klitschko Foreman vs Holmes Palomino vs Cuevas Duran vs Arguello Hearns vs McCallum My favourite tho is Charles vs LaMotta, would've been a classic and my favourite fighter could've picked up an ATG win.
As a fan of both, I wouldn't have liked to see SSM vs. JMM, simply because neither would get much credit for beating the other for differing reasons. Juan had a stylistic advantage and aged far more gracefully past his prime, while Shane is just downright huge in comparison.
What woulve been so great about bowe/ Lewis? Bowe threw the belt in the garbage can, Lennox already effed him up in the Olympics. Holy was a cruiser weight jumping up to hvy and he still beat a prime superheavyweight who loved going to the fridge. Bowe didn't have that much self control. He kidnapped his family and after the golata fights he practically fought all bums. Lewis meanwhile beat and Drew one with 2 holyfield fights. It's called subjectivity, you say tomatoe, I say tomata, you say potatoe, I say potata. I'm trying to defend my list because those were fights in my era, just like bowe and Lewis inside I deeply know would've been a great fight.
I'd pick Matthew Saad Muhammad going to Rahway State Prison to defend his 175 Lb Title against James Scott behind bars. Pretty sure there were logistical problems with the WBC and also I'm thinking prime Scott gave even Saad Muhammad pause for consideration. I would've also loved to see a Larry Holmes-Mike Weaver rematch to unify the titles after Weaver kayoed Coetzee and I think the reasons why likely had to do with Larry not wanting to take a risky fight and jeopardize future paydays.
Michael Carbajal vs Ricardo Lopez - Only 3lb difference they were the best of their division during their reign. Aaron Pryor vs SRL - 1 Weight Class difference. The Hawk constantly called out SRL but he wasn't a big enough draw, as I've heard. Antonio Margarito vs Ricardo Mayorga - OMG fight of the year!! Shame this never went down. Joe Frazier vs Ken Norton - Styles make fights and this one would have been great! Roy Jones Jr vs Darius Michalczewski - We would have the answers we asked back then. James Toney vs Bernard Hopkins - I think their respectable primes were in 2 different weight classes but damn, the skill in this fight! David Tua vs Mike Tyson - Power and Chin on both what more could you ask for? George Forman vs Mike Tyson - I really think it would have been a 90's version of Foreman vs Frazier
Bob Foster vs John Conteh, Foster vs Galindez. 1974, Prime George Foreman vs Earnie Shavers, 1976, Carlos Monzon vs Marvelous Marvin Hagler, 1977, Sugar Ray Leonard vs Aaron Pryor, 1982, Victor Galindez vs Mate Parlov, 1978, Mate mispronounced Victor's name as Victoria. Roberto Duran vs Rodolfo Gonzalez, 1974, and Lennox Lewis vs Riddick Bowe, 1992, Lennox referred to Bowe, as Chicken Bowe.
James Kirkland vs Omar Henry Golovkin vs Pirog Mosley vs Judah Trinidad vs Mosley Ike vs Trinidad Ike vs Mosley Mayorga vs Margarito Wladimir vs Lennox Tyson vs Tua And sadly... likely AJ vs Wilder.
Pedroza Sanchez Mayweather Williams Leonard Pryor McCallum vs Duran, Hagler, Leonard or Hearns Coward, bully Bowe vs Lewis Pavlik Abraham JMM Morales Pac Valero I could go on and on.
One fight that was scheduled to happen but which got scuttled by injuries was Marco Antonio Barrera vs Jesus Chavez. This was when Barrera was at the zenith of the legendary 3rd act of his career while Chavez was a lightweight title holder with a previous reign at 130. It would have been a chance for Barrera to nab a title in a 4th division or a chance for Chavez distance himself from the fact that he came up short against Morales and Mayweather in his two biggest fights. Ultimately after the injury struck, Barrera treaded water by beating Mzonke Fana and Robbie Peden before losing to JMM and visibly losing interest in boxing. And poor Chavez went on to have nothing but bad luck in his career and personal life. * The rivalry between Kendall Holt and Ricardo Torres demanded a tie-breaker but we never got one. * I was pretty sad that Vitali Klitschko and Hasim Rahman never met up. People might laugh that fight off now, but they forget that Rahman was actually a formidable force during his career birth around that time, while Klitschko was viewed by many as a regent rather than a king. * Jose Torres vs. Bob Foster if things had lined up otherwise.
Leonard offered Pryor fights two times, the second of which was signed. Leonard would have taken him out. There is an endless amount of examples that can be given and much of the blame should be on there being too many classes and belts. For instance, if we don't get the unnecessary 105 and 108, Ricardo Lopez, Yuri Arbachakov, Mark Johnson, Michael Carbajal, Humberto Gonzalez, etc. would have been in the same division. Other examples and I can give many more: Jones Jr. vs. McClellan/Benn/Eubank/Michalczewski Forrest vs. De La Hoya/Trinidad/Quartey (prime) Quartey vs. Trinidad/Mosley Tszyu vs. De La Hoya/Mayweather Mayweather vs. Casamayor/Johnston/Spinks Mosley vs. Nazarov Spadafora vs. Johnston Hopkins vs. Wright (prime) Calzaghe vs. Ottke/Michalczewski/Jones Jr. (prime) Esparragoza vs. Fenech/Nelson Nelson vs. Mitchell Galaxy vs. Roman/Lora
Hagler Hearns 2..May or may not have had the same result but the epic War was a total abandon of their styles with Hearns breaking his hand.
