    *Could have consequences.

There are other positive health benefits of boxing training.

Improved cardiovascular health, weight loss etc.

Ive been boxing for years and id bet all my money that my years playing American football, time in the military, and years spent drinking and doing drugs has had a far worse impact on my brain's health than boxing.

The thimg with boxing is, that 80% of people in gyms are simply wannabe hobby boxers that just hit the bag for round and maybe do a occasional spar with another Novice.
But thats just the usual response that you hear from people: military, drinking, other stuff that they think is going to make them appear cooler.

Well I can speak anecdotally. My Father had 50 odd am bouts, nasty sparring for years, boxed extremely aggressively from an early age, even lost nastily to an England boy with a stone of weight on him (that's another story), has had dozens of street fights and used to drink and smoke regular. He is absolutely mentally sharp, constantly reading books and doing quick, high level mental math on his jobs. He speaks perfectly fine and is quite funny (not) and witty, and trains younger boxers at his gym.
My brothers have also had dozens of am bouts and aggressive sparring for years. Absolutely fine mentally; perfect speech. I can also attest to this myself.

However, I also know a young kid around my age who is already sounding punchy because he has been poorly managed / trained / supervised by a shitty 'know it all', took too many shots because of it in a short span of time, has a poor / static defense in his style, etc.

People I've met all across Boxing in the country, some older and ranging into the 100+ bouts, were nearly always fine mentally, quite a few being quite sharp blokes. Course, if you're getting to that level, you know what you are doing. Someone likely to get damaged usually won't do it long because they can't keep on.

Learn how to move and roll your head, and recover properly from bouts and training. Water cutting as an amateur will significantly increase your chances of becoming a vegetable. Of course boxing has a risk.

First off, I dont post anything here to sound cool, I dont care what anyone here thinks about me -- I post the good and the bad about me, to be honest probably more bad than good. I played football from age 10 through my freshman year of college. I enlisted in the military -- twice -- and neither time for patriotic or noble reasons, for my own benefit. I've been a binge drinker and heavy drug addict for almost 20 years before getting clean for a few years, relapsing 7 months ago, and getting clean again 5 months ago. And ive boxed and competed for 20 years. I said what I said because that's what I believe and it's more scientifically backed.

When you think about it Boxing is a sport where two guys fight & the objective is to render the opponent unconcious if possible. I'm a life long boxing nut being both in & out of the ring. I realise boxing is a very dangerous sport and anything that can be done to make it safer is fine by me.
This is why I'm so against the fighters who cheat by using Ped's & unfair advantages. You know who they are. Someone said boxing was safe ?? Ask Magomed Abdusalamov his opinion on that, or the families of other young fighters we have tragically lost. Boxing can do a lot to improve the situation starting with the State Commissions, But all they seem to be concerned about is making $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$

Missed that bit earlier but how sensitive do you mean?

I'd say there's a bro science myth going around about how durable the brain actually is.

People have pieces of their brain removed all the time and show no changes in IQ or behaviour.

I heard that before Floyd Mayweather started boxing, he had a Shakespeare like command of the written English word

Like smoking and other things you gotta factor in genetics as being significant in the long term effects of boxing. There were fighters from the 40's, 50's and 60's who had 100+ pro fights many of them wars plus tough sparring on an almost daily basis and yet were completely lucid right into old age like Archie Moore who showed no effects of brain damage. On the flip side there's guys like Ezzard Charles from that era that were ruined at an early age by the long term effects.

If you getting hit in the head over the course to 10 years, 30 + fights and 5,000 rounds sparred there is a price to pay.

I have no idea where you are coming from with this … is my post supposed to be disrespectful to boxer's who are punchy?

People have been committing suicide because they have mis self diagnosing with CTE so I think it's important the information the scientists are actually saying gets out there.

Nobody has said taking blows to the head doesn't potentially have damaging effects.

I guess you know everything about the subject already and have no use in listening to the best neuroscientists in the world …. I suspect the troll is actually you.

Well the worst I've seen are with heavyweights. They tend to get a bad lot out of it. People closer to my weight tend to be better off. I only used the one example but I know many boxers and I'd say most of them are definitely okay.

What are you saying? War is a product of our tribalism, yes. You do realise it is natural though, even chimps engage in organised warfare with tactics and such. It's entirely natural, it's just combat at a larger scale.
