I called it! Said straight after Saudi this would be the likely fight. Great fight, that would a entertaining 50/ 50 fight. Whyte could just fight bums and cherry picked opponents until his mandatory called in 2021 however that not Whytes style and he wants to fight the best.
I think this would be a tough test for a chubby Whyte. Even if he gets into better shape he will feel the effects of the current fatness. Povetkin on the other hand was in good shape, but he's older and getting more shot by the day. Good pick 'em fight here, would love to see it!
Povetkin needs to retire now, not looked good the last four fights, and is visibly declining. Povetkin is a great highly skilled fighter, who has stayed at the top of the game to a very impressive age, but if he continues now he will lost to somebody that should be beneath him, in all honestly last weekend he already did.
The youthful and energetic style of Hunter shouldn't have been favorable to an aged 40 Povetkin. Hunter thought he could skin the the old boy but a few crafty counters to the face quickly changed that plan. If Povertkin can fight an active whipper snapper like Hunter to a draw , then there's a good chance he can beat the wobbly and sloppy Whyte in a close contested contest.
Russian heavyweight boxer Povetkin says ‘no plans to wrap up sports career’ Povetkin also said he was hoping for a rematch with Michael Hunter of the United States next year and knows how to defeat him MOSCOW, December 12. /TASS/. Russian heavyweight boxer Alexander Povetkin reiterated to TASS on Thursday that he had no plans of wrapping up with his boxing career and already eyes a rematch with US heavyweight Michael Hunter. Povetkin and Hunter fought to a draw last Saturday in Saudi Arabia in the WBA (the World Boxing Association) Heavyweight Title Eliminator bout. The judges’ scorecards read 115-113 for Povetkin, 115-113 for Hunter and 114-114. The current WBA Heavyweight World Champion is Britain’s Anthony Joshua "I still have the passion and I love boxing," Povetkin, 40, said in an interview with TASS. "My eyes are shining and there are no doubts about it at all. However, as soon as I feel some reluctance or laziness I will quit. So far, everything is normal and there were no thoughts about wrapping up my career." "However, it can happen anytime - wham and it is all over," he said. "I thought about retiring after the 2004 Olympics, but I keep boxing although so many years have passed already." Povetkin also said he was hoping for a rematch with Hunter of the United States next year and knows how to defeat him. Before taking on Povetkin last Saturday, US boxer Michael ‘The Bounty’ Hunter, 31, held his previous bout on September 13, when he defeated upon a unanimous judges’ decision Sergey Kuzmin of Russia. The American boxer has now a record of 18 wins (12 by KOs), one defeat and draw. Povetkin celebrated his 40th birthday on September 2, two days after his win over Hughie Fury. Late last year Povetkin underwent a surgery on his elbows and then he announced that he was "not thinking about wrapping up with sports career." On September 22, 2018, UK’s WBA belt holder Anthony Joshua defeated Povetkin in the seventh round with a technical knockout, defending his WBA (World Boxing Association), WBO (World Boxing Organization) and IBF (International Boxing Federation) world heavyweight titles. The Russian boxer was rushed for a medical assistance after the match. Povetkin is known to the fans as the ‘Russian Vityaz,’ and boasts a personal record of 35 wins (24 KOs), two defeats and one draw throughout his career. The Russian boxer is also the gold medalist of the 2004 Summer Olympic Games in Athens.' Most fighters would probably swerve a rematch after having such a tough and gruelling affair first time out against a younger, much fresher, faster, hard hitting and durable customer like Hunter, especially at 40 years of age at the end of their career when they're way past their best and been involved in many hard fights. Personally I don't want to see it and I'd prefer it if Povetkin called it a day but you've got to respect him for wanting it. The toughness and grittiness he displayed during the fight and indeed throughout his career is impressive too.
100%? Are you serious? I've got Povetkin by KO. Whyte comes forward and is flawed defensively, also less skilled than Povetkin. This looks like an unnecessary and very dangerous fight for Whyte at this point. But I'd love to see it.
Not dangerous at all Whyte called Povetkin out to his face infront of an entire arena after he fought price But then Pov went for AJ Whyte clearly has no issue with Pov and he would beat Pov 10/10 imo Whyte aint losing that fight
Ugggghhhh doesn’t it get tiresome backing Whyte to beat everyone except God himself. I get you’re a dedicated fan but don’t you feel you’ll gain more credibility by conceding a bit. Adding a sprinkle of objectivity could do wonders for your future boxing discussions involving Whyte or any other boxer. It’s getting quite nauseating....no disrespect of course.
Ill be objective when I think he can lose He beat guys he weren’t supposed to so far.. why stop the nauseating support?
The psychological practice of objectivity isn’t a switch to be turned on and off. Having a healthy balance and understanding of different perspectives, fair judgment, flaw acceptance are all characteristics of a good critical thinker. What you’re telling me here is being illogical supersedes objectivity. Until Whyte is humbled again you will continue to blindly favor him over all HW’s. Fair enough....maybe do it without being so overtly critical of his contemporaries. It makes you sound bitter. Just because your support resembles that of teenage girl at a Justin Bieber concert does not mean you need to flush all rational thought down the potty hole like a dirty menstrual pad. The only fighter Whyte wasn’t supposed to beat and conquered despite the detractors was Parker. An exceptional win relatively speaking, when compared to his career and yes his ability.
