Im confident Mikey will outpoint him, provided that spence beating didn’t ruin him, to me both fighters at their best this is 70-30 for Mikey. What people forget is Mikey beat Broner comfortably, whereas Broner beat Jessie at least on my card. At least Jessie will let his hands go.

This one is interesting. Looking forward to it. It's been a while that I've looked forward to seeing Mikey fight.

I consider them in the same level at 147. Mikey being more skilled but with a size disadvantage, and Vargas being much more acclimated and proven at 147.

How do even figure Mikey could possibly be ruined from the Spence fight? Spence barely even let his power go. That fight was scripted and Spence carried him.

I never understood it neither. Top Rank used to really shove him down our throat when he was at 140. He even got some gifts, too. Maybe Bob was banging his mom or something.

I don’t think it was scripted, Mikey just tucked up and took it like a man, Errol probably realised this guy was not gunna fight him so he decides to box abit and be patient. I think it was round 7 onwards, EJ really started punishing him, but it’s harder to get a guy out when he doesn’t want to engage and he is defensively sound.

I don't necessarily agree, but that can be a likely scenario. To me it looked like Spence was carrying him, nothing like the Brook fight or any other fight Spence has been in, especially when you consider the size disparity.

Glad Mikey is moving down to his natural weight, but isn’t Vargas a WW? Vargas is a pretty good fighter and has size but he couldn’t beat Broner (Broner won that fight IMO) and Mikey took care of him. A safe fight for Mikey but I hope he doesn’t continue on this path. He’s a top fighter and needs to fight the best guys. I’ll complain but probably watch it because a sucker for this kind of stuff.

Brook wasn’t defensive from the outset, he came with ambitions to win, he just never had the necessary competition to beat a spence (only a Porter fight and GGG beat down in 12 years) Mikey knew he was there for one thing a pay check and a moral victory of saying I went 12. I don’t see the benefit in spence carrying him, he breaks his KO streak and it doesn’t look good having a guy two divisons lower for the distance + he was the a side so if you say the network wanted him to carry Garcia for a while I can see that but I’m pretty sure it’s better for all parties in Spence ended it inside the distance. I’m a spence fan but even I have to admit Mikey took the shots well and survived.

They are definitely on a similar level. And Mikey didn´t beat Broner all the comfortably, Adrien had his moments.
But Mikey clearly beat Broner, while Jessie arguably lost to him, like you said.

Vargas does have the size advantage but Mikey is the superior puncher, and the better boxer. I think it comes down to styles. Mikey hasn´t really fought that many rangy guys. Easter is ridiculously tall for 135, but he is a dumb brawler.
Spence employed the perfect gameplan vs Mikey, especially as the taller man. Keep Mikey stuck in the high guard and make him reach. Mikey is at his best when opponents come to him, something Vargas has to neutralize. Don´t give the superior counter puncher any opportunities.
Mikey clearly needs to adapt his style to taller fighters. Vargas needs to use his feet and take control of the range and distance.

Vargas isnt that intelligent, he allowed a shorter light hitting fighter in Tim Bradley to box his head off, the only advantage that Vargas has is his size but I don’t believe he will use it the way you are saying, we saw that with Broner. Although I do agree that styles makes fights and at least Jessie will let his hand go so it will be interesting enough but just don’t think he is a smart enough fighter to beat the shorter smarter man. Let’s not forget that Vargas had a lot of trouble with a gatekeeper in Durlorme, the more I think about it Jessie just isn’t that good. The best performance I saw from Jessie was against Pac.

spences gameplan was to box him long and not give him the distance to counter. if he hurt him, then take chances and try to take him out. there were about 4 times spence stayed inside too long and mikey caught him with a hard counter, but spence went right back to taking that distance from mikey. mikey tried rushing in several times but got met with stiff punches straight down his path, thats why it evolved the way it did. spence was happy to get the wash without getting in danger, and mikey was happy to go 12 without getting planked.
