I don't see any of Shawn Porter's opposition quit in the middle of the fight because of being constantly headbutted.

It would be ideal if every fight was fought in a clean manner but that's not how boxing operates. You also shouldn't be taking up the sport with aspirations of becoming a champion unless you're willing to go through adverse situations.

He's received way too many paydays based off his last name and it's sad how he's duped the Mexican people for so long. He hasn't taken the sport seriously for over a half a decade, sporadically pops back in every so often for a payday.

I didn't think he had much of a chance last night but to see him quit like that with people hurling debris at him should hopefully seal his fate when it comes to never boxing again.

Based on some of these posts it is obvious to me that Chavez will get another multi-million dollar fight. The narrative will be that the only reason he lost was because Jacobs cheated and at the time of stoppage Chavez was winning the fight and landing monstrous right hands that were shaking Jacobs to the core.

Chavez jr is slow, mediocre boxer with not so much boxing talent, being high-paid athlete only because his father was an ATG Mexican boxer.

Elbows sure but I didn't see Jacob's head butting

If anything Chavez was coming in with his head

Typical fools always love to say that 'it's a fight' to justify serious fouls. Elbows and headbutts are illegal for a reason, they do huge damage compared to gloves in terms of gashes and potentially fractures. If a fighter is clearly performing these fouls on purpose and they do cause fight changing damage, they should be disqualified. If you perform certain tackles in other sports you are removed from the field, they don't just say 'it's football/rugby, expect to be illegally tackled and injured'.

Jacobs is exposed as a dirty, cheating fighter. The good guy act is clearly a load of bull****. The character of Chavez here is irrelevant when it comes to how Jacobs chooses to fight in the ring. It takes a certain kind of scumbag to resort to deliberate butts and elbows (when they're not direct retaliation for such fouls).

You'll often see scumbags exposed in sport when they face adversity and then 'bend' the rules in dramatic ways. Wlad exposed himself in the Fury fight with his jumping headbutt. Wallin with his raking of Fury's cut. Mayweather with his sucker punch of Ortiz (Ortiz was butting, but that was retaliation for Mayweather's elbows). Ward in just about every fight against a top opponent.

I'd put Hollyfield and Hopkins in there as well. Tyson with his famous ear bites was a level of dirty seldom seem.

Pro boxing is ALMOST a sport. The officiating is inconsistent at best. Nobody wants to see there favorite fighters disqualified. There is a lot of money on the line.

Pro boxing has the trappings of being a legitimate sport but it's as close to prize fighting as it is to a sport.

Loma found this out in his fight with Salido. He went into the match thinking it was a legitimate boxing contest. By the end of the fight he understood it was something different. He got an education.

I'd like to see the fight game cleaned up with better and more consistent refereeing and judging. Better and more consistent PED testing. Better rules to ensure two 147 pounders are actually close to the same size on fight night.
Better sanctioning oversight to force the best to fight the best.

I still watch boxing and enjoy it. But a legit sport is something it only resembles.

I agree with you 100% about fouling. Boxing isn't a street fight, it's a sport. There are rules and dirty guys should be penalized and not called "crafty". You are supposed to use only punches.

But if Jacobs was really fouling, Chavez should know that often refs don't see it or do anything about it. Just foul back. Get DQ'd even before quitting.

this Was a televise fight. If you are going to cry foul you know people are going to go back and rewatch. I have twice, since it’s roughly 18 minutes long. There was no ****ing elbow or a head butt. If anyone think this was a dirty fight stop watching boxing and go watch something else.

Jacobs did fight dirty and kept hitting Chavez and roughing him up with his elbow and anyone who says otherwise need to have their eyes checked out. BUT Chavez didn't respect the weight, kept lunging in with his head like he always did throughout his career and was probably on PEDs too. Not surprised he quit in his corner and have no sympathy for him. He's just a big pampered baby not used to not having things go his way.

I thought the kid was Mexican, I've watched Mexicans fight for thirty years and never seen one quit like that. Firstly he didn't even try to make weight and has the biggest head I've seen in my life yet quit because he got a couple of headbutts that nobody saw. His dad looked delighted didn't he?

Jacobs did shatter Julio's snozzle and carve open his eye with savage Dre-esque billy goat butts and elbows, but to be fair the later did miss weight by a whopping 4lbs, looked way bigger than Jacobs, almost as much as Jacobs did against GGG when he pulled that sneak move skipping the IBF second day weigh, and has a rap sheet as long as an orangutan's arm. Fact is Julio pulled a Mikey Garcia aka a No Mas and incurred the wrath of his own fans and not for the first time either.

Mikey pulled the same stunt against Salido after the later had weathered the early storm of flash KDs frenzy and was clearly in the process of turning the tables after finding his groove and dragging Mikey into deep waters and drowning him in the championship rounds. But I didn't see any louts in the crowd hurling projectiles at him for bringing shame upon the good people of Mexico and the great tradition of Mexican boxing.
