Why Evander Holyfield couldn't hit as hard as Mike Tyson when they had the same amount of muscle ?

why are some baseball pitchers who cant lift squat are able to throw 100mph pitches? It’s all technique and some guys just have it. Wilder is a good example. He isn’t the heaviest HW but he hits harder than anyone at the moment, probably.

He is awkward looking at times but when he puts it together he can get a lot of power behind his right hand. It’s the snapping power that hurts guys. Lots of big muscle guys throw pushing punches that don’t have the same affect. Tyson threw snapping punches as did Frazier. Joes punches did damage because he disguised them well. This is another factor. The punches you don’t see coming do the most damage.

The reason being Tyson was 5'11" squat and short. He was able to throw punches inside at top speed ripping the body and the head. Evander couldn't do that ****. He was more buff, put on more muscle manufacturally and his arms at 6'2" could not do what what Tyson did. Evander was more of a faith guy. His style when he clinched he just prayed. He also put his head in the fight for the spot so he could administer more damage. Some would call it head butting. Mike was all face first, when he came inside that big head busted him up. He fought like a true sportsmanlike style up until he but the ears. He never really learned how to dip his head in first and brawl because he was too busy closing the gap with his punches. Evander blocked and partied everything while Mike had poor angles. Kind of like the hockey player Eric lindros. When he was in the minors he used to keep his head down because everybody bounced off of him. But in the pros the people were stronger making him fall down because of how strong they are. Shoulda kept his head up. Tyson liked to fall in with his punches. After 5 or 6 concussive blows he was practically posing for a picture. Fell in love with his power. Had no clinch game. Like I said he fought like a gentleman. His foot work was always going forward so he got real close up in that ass. Holyfields warrior style just had the number of Tyson.

These two guys were always at each other always trying to see who looks the best and had more muscle. When Tyson was in the amateurs he used to run the pool table cutting in line other kids. Holy was the only one who bounced his stick on the floor saying no way to this guy who was the shiznit in the amateurs. Holy knew he would have to face him in the future but he couldn't understand how Mike could throw those fast combos. He said after that pool game that once he stood up to the bully (Mike,) he knew he was gonna kick his ass in the future.

Evander was a combo puncher he hit with authority. They asked Mike who hit the hardest and he replied anbu just supposed to go to their house and ask them to hit me? He said holyfields punches went pak pak pak pak until he blacked out. He said after the fight he smoked some weed and drank some booze.

Somebody in this forum alreAdy maintained the prime Tyson had nearly no flaws or weaknesses. Look at him in the first round of Lewis Tyson. He was jabbing, up on his feet, looking like a prime Mike tyson. His lack of training o ly got him into sub par shape so he Could only fight 1 12th of what he needed to.

Mkey Tyson also had a freakish chin. A wide neck, he could take a hell of a shot. That's why holy had to beat him with bunches of punches. Tyson needed a more stern ref like Jay bady who kept saying evander stop using your head in the toney fight. Tyson complain Ed to Mills Lane that holyfield was butting him but he got so pissed off that nothing happened not even a warning so he took things into his own hands. It wAs premeditated, he came out of the corner with no mouthpiece. You could learn a lesson here, evander should've stopped fouling and Tyson should have never brought the streets in there. This is a huge cultural icon this fight. After the fight (2) Tyson said how are my kids gonna look at me with these scars, holyfield commented there are just something's you can't be forgiven for.

In the second fight there was unfinished business.

Interesting how muscular guys like Steve Cunningham, Bradley & Holy didn't have 1 shot power. & Devon Alexander has popeye muscles , yet guys like Tommy Hearns to Kelly Pavlik were KO specialists aka tall and rangy.

Punchers are born, not made, you can add 10-15% but that's about it

It's all in the legs and the gluteus Maximus... Tyson had thick powerful calf, as well as thick buttocks... Holyfield was more trim...

Born not made. We don't really know why. If we did then everyone could bang.

In my admittedly very, very limited am career - think of a guy with heavy hands and fairly poor hand, foot speed with average reflexes but a solid beard and stamina (a budget Carl Froch) which makes for very messy fights in which attrition is your currency - I can tell you as a puncher that my power which was objectively noticeably above average didn't massively improve despite top notch coaching from some of the UK's most knowledgeable trainers in my teens.

We all wish we were Wilder but we aren't.

    Again born not made.

this isn't true, theres weight classes for good reason. Mass times acceleration equals force.

I cannot believe people think punching power is about Arm and shoulder strength!

I enjoy benching but as for the carryover to punching power I believe I hit just as hard when I was 20 kgs lighter pre weight training. The reason being I was quicker through the shoulders, the rigid set up needed for bench makes you tight and dare I say it slow.
