Come on man, don't even mention this guy in the same sentence as Ibeabuchi. Ajagba is slow, and lacks defense. I'm not sure he is farther along then Wilder was with the same number of fights. At least Wilder had some athleticism.
Again, what hype? There are always going to be some who are vocal when it comes to promising prospects, which Ajagba is. But it´s very few who truly hype him. But other up an coming heavyweight like Joyce, Dubois, Yoka and others are getting a lot more attention and hype. Every prospect out there gets some hype. It´s easy to disagree with everyone’s opinion in that manner and call the prospect over hyped because of it. If you want to see what real hype is look back at when say Broner was coming up. He was the next Floyd the moment he was put on HBO. GRJ is a good example as well. Had never beaten a legitimate contender but quite a lot of people were sure he was the next big thing. The moment Spence got his pro career going, he was seen as the future of the division. Now that is true hype. Ajagba is just a young, promising heavyweight who has shown legitimate power and some solid boxing. This is why people talk about him. But you are seeing it as being overhyped.
His problem is you can’t fix stiff and he’s not good on defense. While the defense can improve a bit the optics of being floored by an opponent who has one draw and three losses on his last 4 fights isn’t good. most prospects are 6’4 inches 230 plus these days and better than who he just fought. That’s the problem. He’s showing early limitations. The reality is good chins at heavyweight are rare and there are plenty of guys who can hit these days. Prior to this fight I felt he was a top five prospect. Not anymore.
Ajagba is a physical specimen. That being said, he needs to be carefully managed. He’s slow bringing his left back, which leaves him open to right hand counters. He’s slow and stiff, and doesn’t move his head. Unsure at this point of the strength of his chin. Of the current heavyweight prospects, I see him at the bottom end. He needs a lot of work, before matching him with the top prospects or journeymen.
He seems more Duncan Dokiwari than Ibeabuchi to me. I've never been very impressed by him to date. I think both Joyce and Dubois (both of whom I'm not very high on either), both devastate him.
Took a flush shot got up and finished the job.. Not sure why people thinks its bad that you can be knocked down its getting back up again which is the skill.. Still raw but now he might focus on not getting him more..
What Ajagba needs is Curtis Cokes. I watched him transform Ike Ibeabuchi from a crude brawler into a complete boxer puncher. Ike's only fault was calling that nasty Vegas hooker. She did what no heavyweight at the time, except maybe Lennox Lewis, could do . That was destroy his whole career helped by a biased judge
He's a prospect. He's still learning. He hurt the other guy, he got countered and put down, got up and stopped his man. I seem to remember a champion hurting a guy, then getting countered, and then losing his title.
