Two-time IBF middleweight world title challenger Sergiy Derevyanchenko from Ukraine has brought the light on what has happened in his negotiations with a team of Mexican star Saul 'Canelo' Alvarez in the first half of this year. Derevyanchenko, who was a mandatory challenger for IBF middleweight title which was held by Alvarez at the time, said Canelo's team put ridiculous clauses in the proposed contract, including enormous financial fines. "We couldn't reach an agreement with Canelo's team. They put a lot of fines in the contract. If I happened to be one lbs overwight, I would have to pay them $1 million. They also included financial fines for me if myself or anybody from my team would have said I'll fight Canelo before DAZN official press release was published. Their contract was full of traps! And finally they have refused to pay us $7 millons while Canelo would have gotten $35 millions himself" - said Sergiy Derevyanchenko in "Soul to soul" broadcast. As much as I get his points. There are plenty others that would step up to those terms which is the issue for him. if I was Sergei I would have taken half of that 7m he wanted
So team Canelo basically wanted Derevyanchenko to come In at his normal weight and not mention the fight untill its finalized. Them there be some nasty "traps" !
Carnelo is the most disgraceful POS in boxing since Floyd retired. You can bet that there was a crippling rehydration clause in there as well.
Tf is he complaining about??? Derevyanchenko was ibf mandatory he made the 10lb limit rehydration against tureano johson. ,culcay. Jacobs and ggg Plus he isnt even a big middleweight. Wtf is he on about ? Had this been callum smith some naturally larger opponent i would understand . but come on .. Dudes a small middleweight. There should be no problem
Standard issue contract. Make weight and dont mention fight as its the promotional companies job to do so.
Meh. When youre a relatively obscure fighter wanting to fight one of the premier names in the entire sport in a fight that will set you for life and a winnable one that could change your entire legacy and even potentially set up a rematch, you put up with the BS, imo. Should have just taken it. But.... thats just imo.
But dont forget that part in the contract that isnt publicised . Canelo's opponent will not be awarded a decision win over in Vegas
No, I think he meant that there wasn't even playing field - fines in contract were only for him, but not for Canelo.
NO!!! All he was asking for was a FAIR FIGHT with no Corruption. But that is not possible in Vegas against either Floyd or Canelo
