Was Berbick given the decision in the Ali vs Berbick fight?

I cannot bear to watch that fight again but some commentators on YouTube think that Ali had the slight edge over Berbick ad the decision could have gone either way. But if they had given Ali the decision we would not have retired and probably fought Mike Weaver next. What are your thoughts?

 

Ali wouldn't have retired after he got the decision. He would've retired after Weaver ko'd him.

 

I'd bet the house on it, Weaver would have gone all out against Ali imo. Would have been brutal.

 

He lost the fight to Berbick. Ali was at the point that anytime from that Shavers/Evangelista timeframe he had to throw 4 or 5 times to land once. And Berbick was just Berbick in the fight and that was why he was selected as the opponent.

And Frazier looked as bad in that Cummings fight----so 2 old great champs putting in a performance that showed things were like being a retired acrobat.

 

Ali had his moments against Berbick but he definitely lost the fight.

 

If you go in eyeonthering, half of the people disagreed with the official result. As did I. That being said, I'm glad they went against him. Would've gave him false hope that he still had it when in reality it'd been gone for a while.

 

I had Berbick up by two points

 

It was a close fight that could have gone either way, but for once, it didn't go Ali's way.

 

His licence should have been revoked after the Holmes fight if not sooner. Humans are so blind and selfish and Ali was delusional.

 

Amazingly I had it 6-4 Berbick, which is astonishing considering Ali was a corpse.

 

Was he a copse or do people in retrospect make out that Ali was a corpse in the Holmes fight to downplay Holmes abilities because while Ali looked in worse shape against Berbick, his display was better than the one against Holmes?

Berbick should have stopped him in 1 round, Ali was a ghost and it was Berbick's crudeness that allowed it to go the distance.

 

According to Ali and his camp there was something else going on in the Holmes fight. He (according to the story) was prescribed Thyroid Medicine and they gave him an energy boost. So Ali being very child-like started popping them like candy. His weight got down and he looked good on the outside. The Grecian Formula even hide the gray hair.
It was the big con.
Ali did say he couldn't sweat that night.

 

Ali was better than he was against Holmes.

I have always wondered at the effect he would have had on the 80's landscape had he continued for another 8-10 fights.

 

It probably would have stalled those other contenders careers. They would have been waiting behind Ali. Then again the guys he lost to would of gotten some exposure.
