So, controversial. Vegan/vegetarian boxers vs old school corpse crunchers!! How many are plant based? And does anyone know for absolute that veggie is best?

Have you watched the game changers documentary?

It was interesting but despite all the bs about feeling better than ever, Vegan is no better than a healthy diet including meat. A lot of the benefits they spoke of you’d get from being vegetarian as well. It did show you can be vegan and perform at a high level as a sports person but it isn’t necessary.

As a boxer it’s a bit like Marquez drinking his own ****. May have given him a psychological edge of some sort (in his own mind at least) but that’s about it.

I did watch it. I’m not sure how much I believe and don’t. I box a little bit and tried to go vegetarian and in the gym when training I did find a little benefit. I felt I lasted longer and no lose of power but I found my recovery bad especially if I did loads of sessions back to back

Gamechangers made me do a bit of research. Essentially there is no difference in performance between a healthy diet containing meat and vegan. I’d consider vegetarian but mainly because it is so much better for the environment.

A vegan diet is extremely bad for you regardless of whether you are an athlete or not.

You are missing up to 50 essential nutrients. You will medically be advised to take a number of supplements to try to make up for this
(at least 7 as per the article below). It is also medically proven that many of the nutrients are not absorbed by the body, so you will become nutrient deficient. Many people just poop those nutrients out and dont absorb them at all.

    https://www.healthline.com/nutrition/7-supplements-for-vegans#1

Many vegan men end up lacking testosterone and energy as a result of their nutrient deficiency. Many get serious injuries or cannot recover from training as they used to.

At least on a vegetarian diet you are able to eat diary products and fish.

Our ancestors grew up over 1000s of years eating meat. But apparently we cracked it in the past 7-8 years and realised starving ourselves to death without eating diary products and meat is the best diet.

The best physical condition I ever got into prior to a fight, both aesthetically and functionally was on a 16/8 fasting diet whilst eating predominantly as a pescatarian. It suited the hours I was training etc and just seemed to work for me personally.

On 1 June 2019 in New York, it was clear that stuffing one's face in McDonalds, Burger King or KFC is the best way to eat your way to a World Heavyweight Title when facing a non elite World Heavyweight Champion.

Lol. I think it was a case of winning in spite of that diet, rather that because of it and as it was shown in the rematch, with that diet you can still take it too far in your devotion to it.

My misses watched it and now she's gone Vegan and keeps trying to get me to go Vegan!

I need to see more evidence myself and properly look into it before I even contemplated changing.
