The film rights were money. He knew an easy or early ko would ruin it. There’s footage of Johnson literally holding Ketchel up from being knocked down. Then he gets clipped and flattens him. Seems clear cut to me.

Johnson does not look dazed in my opinion, however a 100 per cent definite is that he looks a whole lot less dazed than "The Michigan Assassin" does.

I can post three more sources that say he was dazed at a later date . The San Fran times says he was dazed in their headline. Another source said Johnson thought his jaw was broken. Busy time of the year. Hope to show before the end of the weekend.

    More sources:

    More on Johnson dazed

https://books.google.com/books?id=l...e&q=Johnson dazed after Ketchel fight&f=false - Source Stanley Ketchel: A Life of Triumph and Prophecy

" The men met in the center of the ring, clinched and wrestled to Johnson's corner. Johnson broke away, and, poising himself, dashed at Ketchel, who sprang to meet him.

As he straightened to his knees his eyes encountered Ketchel's, and with the fury of a wild beast he leaped across the ten feet that separated them. His right fist shot to Ketchel's jaw. The left smashed to the stomach and the right swung again with the speed of lightning, catching Ketchel's head as he reeled back from the onslaught. Ketchel dropped in a heap, and Johnson, unable to stop his rush, fell full length himself. Ketchel was fully unconscious. Once, as the seconds were counted over him, he feebly moved his arms and rolled his head. He gave not another sign of life, and his seconds picked him from the floor. Johnson was still dazed as he clung to the ropes. "

"JACK SAYS HE FELT IT Johnson admits that Ketchel stung him and stung him severely. He was j very ready with this statement after the fight was over. He even went so : far las to intimate that his jaw was broken. He said that his smaller opponent caught him completely off his guard and landed that terrific right swing when he least expected it. But even the champion himself can not explain how he came back with the speed and fury which which he responded." •

^^ San Fran says the punch landed, so does the ref. " Johnson reeled. "

I think you have been shown up already. You said show me a source where he was dazed. I listed several. This game has been over for quite some time. A crude middle who had no amateur experience and skill level that we call can see, weighing well under the 170 listed weight ( more like 160-155 ) floored, and dazed the heavyweight champion of the word in his prime.

Its holiday time. I hope everyone is busy with friends and family, and not arguing how many newspapers said Johnson was dazed, as there are quite a few!

Show me a source that interviewed Johnson post fight. He said quite clearly he was not fine.

He may or may not have been dazed but he was knocked down.

A punch makes contact and the opposite fighter goes to the floor. That is a knockdown. I have seen plenty just as weird.

If your take is that Johnson faked the KD, why the sudden, emphatic retort? Did Ketchel really agree to accepting that much punishment?

Or was it just a case of Johnson thinking he had total control over an opponent, could orchestrate the entire script and then got caught for a split second not in control?

Two things have always bothered me about this fight. Johnson is clearly falling before Ketchel's punch lands, if it even does, and two there are frames removed from the film that would have shown the ko punch landing. I like watching this stuff in slow motion otherwise I wouldn't have noticed. Something is just not right about this fight. Apologies if someone has already noticed and discussed this. Anyways, longtime lurker, with my 2 cents. Cheers.

You're right, you know. Good spot.

Anyone else thinking that this fight could shut down future debates on whether a good big un would beat a great little un? On paper, yes, as little guy lands punch on big guy whose next action is to batter little guy into unconsciousness. But Ketchel does not even look good in this. Horrible style. Nothing he does would muster any praise from a fair judge. Obviously it's a few moments edited from a long fight but, even so. To even momentarily look this bad...?

Ketchel thought the fight was on the level, and fought accordingly. He agreed to nothing and had no choice about taking whatever punishment Johnson decided to dish out to him.

This thread asks posters if Johnson looks dazed as he stands casually looking down at the unconscious Ketchel
You stated in other threads Johnson was dazed and needed to hold onto the ropes to support himself,.this is plainly nonsense, and nobody agrees with your absurd suggestion that it isn't! Not one single reply agrees with you.
