Teddy Atlas a good trainer, had deep admiration for Cus D Amato, talked about him all the time, to the point that it infuriated fight announcers at ringside calling the fights.
I remember he had a scuffle with some journalist at a press conference for a Moorer fight from memory back in the 90's. Teddy got a busted lip so it's fair to say he didn't dominate that one. I think he attacked Kirk Johnson (or some other heavyweight of that fringe contender ilk) he had a dispute with as well. And who can forget him shoving Big George? Foreman almost moved too.
Apparently he bit Chris Eubank Sr's ear in a fight at a Bronx gym when Eubank was 16 or 17 and Atlas about 30
Atlas is a delusional crumb who threatened a teenage Tyson with a gun insisting Tyson come fight exclusively for him or something or a rather Tyson spoke about it in an interview with some hilarious commentary about Atlas's "Connections" he should stick to getting Foreman sandwiches.
Didnt cus tomato take Tyson’s side in their arguments and casted Atlas aside? Why would Atlas still be so loyal to him?
I liked Teddy. Met him when I was young. He was cool. He had no reason not to be. His fake humility during that convo was irritating. Something I'm sure happened. Atlas is rough character. I don't buy the idea he was standing up and parrying Hector's punches as long as he implied. He may have grabbed him. That would be the only option. Maybe the Viruet brothers saved Teddy's ass. As reluctant as he was to tell the story that smells of someone embellishing.
Teddy is an angry guy with principles. My guess is he wont give a crap and will get stuck in whether he dies or not. All street fights wind up on the floor, and in a place like a gym there won’t be any shortage of people willing to break it up. 100% he could save face in a situation like that. And I am glad of it. Comacho was out of line.
quite a Resume. Tyson, Eubank And Comacho.. All joking aside, I believe Teddy is straight stand up guy who is good for boxing. He calls out all the bad decisions and dirty business more than anyone else would.
I heard that up in the Catskills Atlas once fought a mountain lion that talked back to him. Suffice it to say, the cougar came out on the losing end.
