I totally agree. I was just going by the years he won Ring Fighter. Not a good list.

Whitaker never looked unbeatable, Roy did.

Had any fighter ever dominated another bonafide atg in their prime as Roy did with Toney and Hopkins? Those fights looked like Roy coulda won 100/100.

His wins over Toney and Bhop are better than Chavez or DLH top wins. Let's be real, he's better p4p than the both of them.

No it wasn't. Fight was pretty close and could have gone either way.

I agree, but as @IsaL pointed too many names he didn't fight.
Even if we ignore that it was all TJ's fault for weigh draining himself weeks before the fight. If we ignore that Hop was learning on the job -who hadn't a single big name on his resume, there is one stark fact: Toney & Hopkins are just 2 names. Is that enough to make him best of the 1990s?

Roy Jones in his prime at MW and SMW was untouchable and unbeatable.

Roy beat himself in the end by going up too many weight divisions and fighting at weights he didnt not belong at.

    My vote goes to RJJ

No, Hagler had a much better jab than Roy ay 160, Roy never faced a jab like that, Marvin had a better jab than the jab Hill displayed v Jones.

Chavez had to display better defense against Taylor than Jones did v B-Hop and Toney, because Taylor threw far more punches v Chavez than those two middles did v Jones and Meldrick`s handspeed was amazing, also Chavez was comming forwards in that bout meaning slipping shots was a lot harder than when backing off like Jones was doing in those clashes at 160, Calzaghe wa great at slipping while coming forwards too.

He caught Hamed constantly and boxed his ears off.

Roy struggled far more v B-hop in a largely negative fight, because Hopkins could close the distance better than Toney did, also B-hop improved drastically in the years that followed, he was pretty green in the early 90`s and certainly not an ATG yet.

A lot of focus on Jones offense and best wins.

    How about his defense?

He went to the ropes and lost early rounds against Mike McCallum. He did the same thing and technically lost to Montell Griffin.

If things had lined up slightly differently and he had faced a prime Michael Nunn a clear path to a decision loss exists in my mind.

He looked spectacular at times, the Virgil Hill body shot KO was scary, the knockout in the Griffin rematch was sublime but I wouldn’t bet on him to edge out pound for pound quality wins the way I would for Whittaker or De La Hoya.
