With the finalist being announced wanted to be the first to pose the question not of who you think should get it but who based off options to you think deserves FOTD award to review our combatants. 1.Floyd Money Mayweather - Probably the most polarizing and notable love or hate him Money May impacted the sport in multiple ways from marketing to instilling better testing along with a slew of names beaten he retired officially in 2015(no gonna mention McGregor lol) as reigning unified WBC/WBA JMW Champ and WBC/WBA/WBO WW Champ literally every fight he had was vs a top rated titlist or Champ until Berto and retired with the most Champions beaten in boxing history Offical record 10-0 Tiles held 147 WBC,WBA,WBO & 154 WBC & WBA Wins - Mosley #1WW/#3P4P/WBA Champ, Ortiz #3WW/WBC Champ, Cotto #1JMW/WBA Champ, Guerrero #3WW/#10P4P/WBC Titlist, Alvarez #2JMW/#10P4P/WBC Champ, Maidana 2x #5WW/WBA Champ, Pacquiao #2P4P/#2 WW/WBO Champ, Berto unrated, McGregor unrated. 2.Andre S.OG. Ward - another fighter who was mired with controversy this decade which started off with Ward being a underdog in the super six going on to win beating both favorites in the process after going through the tournament impressively his career looked to be on an up swing before being stalled out with contract issue leaving him with a lot of uninspired fights in the middle portion of the decade highlighted by a fight with the then LHW Champ Dawsom albeit at 168, after going through his issues he came back strong to move up and to take on the then unbeaten perennial P4P undisputed LHW Champ beating him in 2 highly debated and contested fights retiring in 2017. Offical record 12-0 Titles Held 168 WBA & WBC & 175 WBA,WBC, & IBF Wins - Green #7 SMW, Bika #5 SMW, Abraham #8 SMW, Froch #2 SMW/WBC Champ, Dawson #3 LHW/WBC Champ, Rodriguez #9 SMW, Smith unrated, Barrera unrated, Brand unrated, Kovalev 2x #1LHW/#6P4P/WBA,WBO,IBF Champ 3. Saul Canelo Alvarez - following the trend Canelo is also a highly debated fighter, Canelo has maybe taken the biggest leap, starting the decade as a highly touted prospect still a year away from his first world title and another year away from his first world level opponent in a shopworn Mosley but after becoming Champ and getting some experience he hit the ground running starting with a unification with then unbeaten top JMW Austin Trout after a loss to then P4P #1 Mayweather his only of the decade Canelo went on to beat a slew of JMW contenders before moving up to 160 ad beating the reigning unified Champ in 2 highly touted and competitive bouts. Canelo has closed out the decade on an impressive run winning titles in 3 different divisions in consecutive fights the first to do that in 100 years Offical record 23-1-1 Titles held 154 WBC,WBA, & WBO, 160 WBA, WBC, & IBF, 168 WBA & 175 WBO Win - Camechis unrated, J.Cotto unrated, Cuello unrated, Baldomir unrated, Ndou unrated, Hatton unrated, Rhodes #5JMW, Gomez unrated, Cintron unrated, Mosley unrated, Lopez #8 WW, Trout #1 JMW/WBA Titlist, Angulo #6 JMW, Lara #1 JMW/WBA Champ, Kirkland unrated, Cotto #1 MW/WBC Champ, Khan #7 WW, Smith #6 JMW/WBO Champ, Chavez unrated, GGG II #1 MW/P4P #4/WBC & WBA Champ, Fielding #6 SMW/WBA Titlist, Jacobs #3 MW/IBF Champ, Kovalev #3 LHW/WBO Champ Loss - Mayweather #1 WW & JMW/P4P #1/ WBC JMW & WBC WW Champ Draw - GGG I #1 MW/P4P #4/WBC,WBA, & IBF MW Champ So what say you, which deserves Fighter of the Decade for 2010-2019 feel free to correct any rating... discuss
Loma has been the best fighter of the decade and Canelo might not have won his rematch v GGG, Floyd beat better comp but Loma landed more punches on his opponents and made them quit, Floyd v Manny was boring, Canelo was too green when he lost to Mayweather.
Floyd. Should not be Pac. Although I don't agree with the losses given to Pac, his record states those-4 losses in a decade in FOTD candidate. He should've had testing for JMM IV, LOL! He never should have gotten in the ring with Jeff Horn to begin with, what a shame he got jobbed over one, we didn't ask to see him against. Harold Lederam claimed Bradley won the fight. I don't, but it is what it is. Broner? Who went in 3-2-1 was a cherry pick & Thurman having (zero) fight in 2018, seemed to be a decent pick. Solid record, good pedigree with a LOT of inactivity going 2 fight in 2017 & 2018. Ward not fighting last 3 years of decade puts a dent in it. Canelo surrounded by too much controversy. Personally I'd take Lomachenko as aFOTD 1. Changed the scope of when a fighter is ready- did it in 3 fights over a very reputable amateur record with 24-0 pro record Gary Russell. Then take on 26-0 Walters who had just stopped Darchinian & his 1st conquerer Donaire...I mean damn Donaire showed years later he still is a bad mofo. Russell went on to become champ hasn't lost since. It was Loma that checked them. Crushed Roman Martinez. & Just like Olympian Russell, Rigendeaux 17-0 was made to look ordinary. That takes skill. WBA LW champ Jorge Linares riding a 6 winning streak, dropped Loma only to be out-adjusted out maneuvered and forced to quit. Holds belts in 2 weight classes. He should be the pick for FOTD, but based on who is listed here I'd go with PBF.
Hate to say it as he's retired but Floyd still dominates the sport. Even now, I suspect if you put him against pretty much any opponent, he will be favourite to win and will more than likely be the victor.
Manny was 12-4 (Really more like 13-3) the last decade. Floyd 10-0 (More like 9-0 if you disregard the joke of a bout that was Conor McGregor)
Ward is a good shout, although the last decade was meant to be his he was held back by injuries and promotional issues.
