Also, Hearn isn't impressed at the fact they're not doing a press tour for the rematch and he's right. It's odd. He thinks Wilder may not want to be around Fury as Fury could get in his head.
Press tours are pretty pointless. Social media and advertising on television is enough. The general public don't watch press conferences.
Yes and no. They don’t sit down and watch a press conference, but when a press conference happens the highlights are used for promotional material. We can argue the toss about Fury but many think he’s a great character outside the ring and pretty dull in it. Him at a press conference winding up Wilder creates material which you’re not getting if both fighters are just locked away in training.
Not with characters like Fury and Wilder. There'd be a few golden moments that would help promote the fight. Anyway, I think it'll do well regardless.
Not really If the conference it quite a lively one then the clips tend to get plastered all over social media so the people that wouldn't watch such long drawn out event would see the juicy bits and may purchase/view the fight in question
Probably spot on that last bit and if it’s true you’ve got to question what sort of mind state Wilder is in going in to this fight.
It's definitely better for Wilder than Fury that they're not doing do a press tour. He got inside Wilder's head last time, had him throwing punches on stage and ranting like a lunatic. It was quite funny actually.
For the bigger picture ie an AJ undisputed fight. Arum lost millions on Fury during 2019 but knew in 2020 he would recoup and make big bucks with him. Sky will use this, just like the Ortiz rematch to build the winner as AJ’s nemesis.
It’s certainly a commercially viable gamble for Sky anyway as the fights huge but the real long game is making AJ Undisputed.
It’s win/win for Sky. You’ve made a competitor pay a lot more than expected or you get a huge PPV yourself and push it like **** and go with the AJ nemesis storyline as said previously.
