For what it's worth, I believe Floyd, Ward, and Canelo are the 3 who have the strongest cases. So I think the BWAA has the correct 3 finalists.

I wouldn't say Cuadras and Yageshi were very special.

There are only about 500 combined light fly and strawweight boxers. There are about 1800 different 147 fighters. It's a shallow pool.

Just goes to show how many great fighters we have seen this decade.

Have looked at it from all angles, and I have to say that it’s really difficult to see past Pacquaio, even though this wasn’t his greatest decade compared to previous ones...

Floyd has a win over Canelo, which looks way better over time - but his last few career fights in this decade are typified more by underwhelming fights against people that were not considered real threats - for every Canelo you had a Berto and Maidana, for every Pacquaio you had a Guerrero, Ortiz or McGregor etc. Plus, he was essentially retired midway through the decade. Hard to pick against an ATG - but I just feel he could’ve challenged himself more, he certainly had the talent to do that. Would’ve liked to see him fight the new breed welters.

Canelo is the most relevant and probably the leading contender. His resume is great this decade. But the failed test, when taken along with all the other asterixs (dodgy scorecards etc) makes him hard to pick. He’s great of course, but playing with a loaded die even when not needed.

Pacquiao has had an excellent decade - engaged in some classic wars, winning some and losing some, but I just feel that the records he has set this decade alone will stand for many many years to come, and will age extremely well. When he is gone, people will rate him much higher than they do now. It’s just very difficult to not have him as fighter of the decade considering the very impressive, unprecedented records that he has written into the history books in this, his 3rd decade - as a past prime fighter. Plus, he has fought and beat some of the higher profile new breed welters, which was a very impressive full stop to the 2010’s.

I mean, starting the decade with Margarito and ending it with Thurman is just SICK, whichever way you slice it. Before you take the age and size into consideration too. He really is hard to pick against based on achievement.

C'mon now man Manny is doing goatish things not saying he's FotD but still the rude just beat an unbeaten Chamo in Thurman and dominated granted Thurman overrated but that's what a real Chamo supposed to do and take his title.

I think that says more about the era them considering 2 guys ended halfway through and were considered better than young guns still going.

He's really easy to pick against. Mayweather comfortably beat two other candidates.

    1. Canelo and Pac wins are better wins than Bradley and Thurman.
    2. Mosley and Cotto are better wins than Margarito and a disputed win over Marquez.
    3. As for "filler," Ortiz, Guerrero, Maidana, and Berto **** all over Algieri, Rios, Vargas and spent versions of Mosley, Broner and Mattyhsee.

And Mayweather was not knocked out cold and 118-110'd. Easy call.

I get it - loads of people hate Pacquaio and loads hate floyd and hate Canelo etc. So it’s always contentious.

But when the dust settles, as far as ACHIEVEMENT goes, I think Pacquaio is still ahead. Yeah, he took some filler in-house fights, but he fought more and for longer than Floyd did, and so from top to bottom, I think he gets it. The first and last fights he had this decade are just unbelievable results really. Floyd was great, but he didn’t really have any surprising wins - he was always heavily favoured. That is the only thing that works against him really. I would’ve liked to see him take some more risks really.

Pacquaio, love him or hate him, is objectively setting records that will stand for many years. In his third decade as a pro. It’s really pretty incredible. Yeah, Floyd beat him head to head, but Floyd was done by 2015 whereas Pacquaio went on to fight the most accomplished new breed welterweight champ and defeat him.

It’s all subjective of course. I get that. But the records are objective - and that makes him hard to pick against in my book. These achievements will be remembered very highly and only get better with time. That’s my opinion anyway.
