browne ducked haumono and then leapai, now dempsey, lol. no chance he ever faces parker either. years ago he was suppose to fight the winner of haumono vs kevin johnson and when he saw haumono struggle to adapt to johnsons boxing ability he ducked johnson too. i don't blame him though cause the same thing would've happened to him. if browne was smart he'd knock over 4 or 5 bums in quick succession while going to town on parker in the media to set up a final payday vs him and call it a day after that. might even land a lucky punch, anythings possible.
It all comes down to dollars boys. When Browne won the Aussie title Hatton Promotions were in touch and wanted him to come over. He earned 2.5 times what was on offer to fight Butlin than he was offered to fight Haumono. It also immediately opened doors to further his career past RSL club shows. No brainer, really. Criticise him all you want, but you’re talking about a guy who fought basically every major fight of his career on the road. And he was NEVER involved in any tournament to fight Kevin Johnson. Was spoken about for hype with the media, never by anyone from HP or Team Browne, mind you.
I don’t think Whateley’s next fight will be for the Commonwealth title. England’s Chris Billam-Smith won that back in late November so he won’t have any obligation to face Jason next. I’m mindful Jason has only had 7 outings as a pro, despite loads of amateur fights. He needs a few bouts to get some rounds and extend him. Personally speaking I’d love to see Jai, or Light for that matter, win a title and hopefully by the time that happens, Jason would be in a position to challenge for it. Could be a big year for the Cruiserweights in this part of the world.
was spoken about for hype? lol yeah sure. u know full well browne avoided johnson on purpose. he openly just admitted that he ducked leapai as well btw.
Some things to look forward to in Australian boxing in 2020 (in no particular order): 1. Andrew Moloney being upgraded to WBA regular champ status & unifying his world title against IBF champ Jerwin Ancajas. 2. Justis Huni winning gold in the SHW division at the Tokyo Olympics - our first ever Olympic boxing gold! 3. Horndog challenging for a world Junior Middleweight title - "2-time", baby! 4. Michael Zerafa challenging Ryota Murata for the WBA regular Middleweight title. 5. Jason Moloney receiving another world title shot at bantamweight. 6. George Kambosos facing Loma in Australia. 7. Liam Paro getting a world title shot at a vacant world title. 8. Jai Opetaia v David Light for regional cruiserweight supremacy. 9. Junior Tszyu stepping up against a world class opponent. 10. Regular televised shows on Foxtel featuring the best up & coming talent in Australian boxing in competitively matched fights. I reckon we'll see most of these things happen in 2020. If we do, it will be a hell of a year in Australian boxing.
You can slice it however you like mate. Nobody ever contacted us or even offered us a deal to fight Kevin Johnson. The end. Leapai was briefly spoken about in 2018. I was there. I had meetings with Noel Thornberry and Jamie Myer. Lucas fought in the UK instead for significantly more. These guys aren’t afraid of each other. It’s about getting paid what they’re worth.
lucas browne was offered that the 2 winners out of each fight would face each other and he agreed to it. after haumono struggled with johnson browne didn't want any part of that fight. there's no other way to slice it, lol. nobody said lucas was afraid, he just knew the same would happen to him as happened to haumono. u know it whether u admit to it or not.
Lucas will fight whoever is put in front of him. He had a promoter that owns his rights. That promoter was never contacted about fighting anyone other than James Toney. The money in Oz means you’re better off fighting overseas. I don’t even look after the bloke anymore, but I was there, so I know what happened. Enjoy your day.
* Hornet has been nominated for Aust of the Yr. * Jan WBA rankings Zerafa still WBA no 7 and Hornet WBA no 8 at MW. * Opetia and Wilson though they have both signed with D& L are still managed by Tasman Fighter 's Mick Francis. I don't often praise the WBA, but I think they've made a good decision keeping Michael Zerafa in their top 10 Middleweight rankings. It might have something to do with the fact that the WBA regional president scored the fight a draw. I don't agree with his scorecard but I agree with the decision to maintain Zerafa's world ranking. But for the whim of the ref, he stops Horndog in the 9th. Let's hope he gets the Ryota Murata fight. Maybe after a 'tune-up' against Tej Singh. Horndog's ranking isn't really an issue as presumably he will be fighting at Junior Middle from now on. Horndog gets my vote for Australian of the Year, btw. Even if he doesn't pick up the big award, he should be in line for some sort of gong in the Australia Day honours list. We may have to refer to him as Jeffrey Horndog AO before too much longer.
the hater grubs on here will need to be on suicide watch if jeff is ozzie of the year, pmsl. browne should be ashamed of himself for picking on hopoate. he was paul gallens leftovers anyway, lol. hoppa hasn't be relevent for 10 years and struggled back then too.
Well **** me Babs your last paragraph is probably the only sensible comment I've read from you in neigh on 10 years , however all the rest of this post is a steaming pile of horse crap , why would Browne be scared to fight a shot to bits Alex Leapia ? ( no diss to Alex here either ) you've been told in plain black and white by Ippy the score yet you flat out refuse to acknowledge it . Man i thought I saw your name on a loaf of bread the other day but upon closer inspection it said " THICK CUT " ohhhhhh poor Babs .
