The fastest guy he fought at middleweight was obviously Jones Jr. Hopkins didn't really rely on hand speed though. He wasn't slow but he wasn't very fast either, he fought plenty of guys with quicker hands like Allen, De La Hoya, Tito, Calzaghe, Taylor and Pascal. Nunn undoubtedly had all the tools to give Hopkins nightmares. If he could stick to a strategy of boxing and moving he could outbox Hopkins and win a decision.
I am going to go with Nunn as well. As long as Nunn stays cool, and doesn't let Bernard's antics get under his skin, he should be elusive enough to comfortably outpoint Hopkins.
Must admit that I'm not too familiar with Nunn. Can anybody point me in the direction of some of his fights so I can educate myself?
I think that Nunn's speed and movement win it for him here. Those were the things that seemed to trouble Bernard Hopkins the most.
Another vote for Nunn. The earlier pick and peck version though & not the guy who started going toe to toe. I don't think he leaves openings for Bernard. And Hopkins would need to fight in 4th gear to wear this guy down and I sure don't see that happening either. more of a hold his hands up and follow. About zero chance of a stoppage in this one & I think nunn puts rounds in the bank and coasts his way down the stretch to an easy points win.
There is always the tendency to call such early blow outs as flukish and maybe it was, it never happened to Kalambay again, but then when did Kalambay ever have an opponent with such advantages in height and reach forcing him to reach in time and again. Had they rematched I doubt Kalambay would have been blown out in a round again but I would be very confident that Nunn would win comfortably, it was pretty clear Kalambay was struggling to reach Nunn and was falling short with a lot of shots. Nunn was simply all wrong for Kalambay.
Damn I have to do all the work for you atsch No, joking aside, as others have pointed out : Kalambay, Tate and Roldan. The Barkley fight is where Nunn starts to regress.
Nunn is light years better than anyone Hopkins beat @160. Bernard has no size nor speed advantage here which he utilized to perfection throughout his career. Michael is better at everything than Jermaine Taylor was @ 160. This is a bad matchup for Bhop.
