Taylor has the skills to give Canelo fits but I would lean towards Canelo here. Taylor when faced with adversity fell to pieces unlike Canelo.
Taylor was one of my favorite fighter in recent years. Its sad what happened to him later in his career. A young Taylor wins ..but most likely gets robbed on the cards. Canelo has an Iron chini. If GGG couldn't Ko him, I don't Taylor could.. but who knows.
I would agree with you with a Manny Steward trained Taylor but a Burns trained Taylor is a different animal. I absolutely love Manny Steward. He's is my favorite trainer and commentator of all time. But he didn't do a good job with Taylor. Maybe it wasn't his fault and Taylor wasn't hungry anymore after winning the title.
Based on Taylor's career he'd start out well(probably be ahead for most of the fight) but implodes late and gets stopped brutally.
Adversity however usually manifested in his face getting bashed in by power Nelo does not possess. Jermain is the same adaptive-reactive boxer with size advantage as Nonito was in lower classes with the ability to absorb relatively good punches, deal with timing and counter-punches and offer a good mixture of skills, size, power and timing of his own, see Hopkins success. t was not Pavlik' or Walters' skills but their relentless attack and huge bombs that cut through Taylor and Noni, and Nelo is more Hopkins in this situation. Jermain likely does what Jacobs but more successfully to a very debated loss, whereas Nelo would have a field day vs. Pavlik, though question remains how he handles 12 rounds of relentless pressure - well Hopkins, Martinez handled is quite well and Nelo was very solid vs. GGG and Kovalev. I'd gladly put Alvarez and Golovkin into the Hopkins, Taylor and Sexy Sergio(e) years, and I'm not sure GGG would come up better vs. them, whereas I'm most confident that Hopkins would pick up the most wins.
Fair post. Something about Taylor in those fights against Hopkins despite him winning seemed lacking and I just can't put my finger on it. He's a hard fighter for me to rate. I don't know if he had early stages CTE while he was fighting Hopkins but it became more apparent later. With that said he's a sad story no doubt.
Hops wasn't struggling to make 160. Link to that? And since Hops still competed in higher weights, winning championships after Taylor, Hopkins age has nothing to do with anything.
