I know many think that these coaches are overrated (each to their own, but I disagree), but which fighter used one and REALLY benefited from them? Amir Khan stands out to me. Just watch Amir in the Maidana fight (awesome battle, btw). He took BOMBS and was still standing. I think Ariza and Khan were the perfect match. Khan visibly benefited from Ariza's help. Hatton is another. Kayes, and I think he applies the wrong methods (he used typical Bodybuilding routines) whipped Hatton into phenomenal shape. Your thoughts?
Getting stronger, more explosive, and more powerful is always a good thing -- in the right places. As long as it doesnt hinder range of motion, flexibility, and fluidity. You dont want to get too strong with a lot of the back muscles, they will pull power, speed, and snap away from your punches.
I'd have said Khan as well as long there was nothing dodgy going on there.... I did find it abit fishy at the time that the chinniest man in boxing was able to take that 9 minute twatting for the last 3 rounds without touching the canvas But I was probably just pissed out because I had 50 quid on the maidana stoppage
Not saying he is a world beater but considering he’s pst prime and was never that good to begin with, Chisora is having an Indian Summer at this stage of his career and Ruben Tabares has played a role in this.
Is this code for who worked with the shiftiest motherlovers and suddenly looked different in the ring? Ariza, Memo, Conte - these are the guys we're talking about right?
I have my suspicions on why Khan improved with Ariza Maybe it's all legal mate, but that guy is shady as hell And yes he was still shady when he worked with Floyd and was hired for that reason Keyes was brilliant at getting Hatton in shape and Ricky was famed for his stamina early on. To be fair the bodybuilding style training seemed to be very high reps and beyond failure, so Hatton had to work really hard However, I imagine Hatton was the rarity with his style of weight training. But who am I to say he was wrong? It clearly worked for him and imo his lifestyle caught up with him in the end, not to mention running into a prime Floyd and Manny! Good thread though and I am interested to see other examples
