Also forget to add, I don't live too far from Paul McCloskey (former European champion that fought Khan) and he had a cracking strength and condition coach who I know personally The same guy has trained professional rugby teams and also has taken on some young pro footballers as clients As far as I am aware he does more functional workouts, like weightlifitng/powerlifting ,mainly for speed and explosion He also does a lot of tyre flips and sled drags similar to what you see in strong man. also a lot of high intensity cardio like hill sprints etc The guy definitely has a lot of knowledge He was also the strength coach for Irish boxer Eamon O'Kane who was in great shape
Local guy named Ollie Cummings Really knowledgeable fella and was an ex powerlifter, but not like your typical powerlifter he was also very fit
PEDs are used by 99% of Elite athletes, having the experienced strategist decide how & what to use is what makes PEDs useful Taking PEDs without a meticulous strategy will usually backfire, the odds at success are very thin & require the proper experience/strategy
I think boxing is a slightly different sport though, just because it’s so old school some fighters don’t even have s&c coach yet. If you don’t think s&c coach can help you then you probably won’t even go near peds. And the training methods are so old school too not at all backed up by science.
Heavyweights can benefit from PEDs if they want to use them, due to the lack of weight limit & concerns of weight gain. Restricted Weight-class boxers should avoid PEDs & stick to the lowest weight-class they can make, but that will mean staying in the same division & losing out on big money fights that their manager-promoter wants. Promoters-Managers-Fans pressure the boxers to move up in weight, PEDs become necessary to tune the extra weight, otherwise they will not look shredded as they move up in weight, which is not acceptable in 2020. Any boxer who is moving up in weight & bulking has to use PEDs
Let's all be clear - it was STEROIDS not a S&C coach that saved Marquez. Ripped hulk with pimples all over his back, taking shots that flattened him in every other fight. Jesus Christ. Seeing Tim Bradley box his ears off was very pleasing to me. Couldn't have dealt with good ole Timmy losing to a steroid cheat.
Hughie Fury 4.0. Mark my words, the HW division is going to be seeing a completely different Hughie to the one we've become accustomed to because ''drastic changes'' have been made and he's also bulked up a lot and has been working on his power with his S&C coach. Pascal and Jack too, among others, but it seems like people really don't care who else works with Memo lol
Good shout, was about to mention Spinks aswell. As far as I’m aware, he was the first to really put emphasis on S&C when he moved from LHW to HW.
