It was kinda supposed to say something along the lines of the two fighters that knew they couldn't match Hagler head on, were one or of the only two fighters to go the distance within his reign as champ. Not too sure where I was going with this to be quite Frank.
It would be bombs away, but I would favor Hearns for sure.Nigel Benn at middleweight had a glass jaw and stamina issues and Hearns definitely would zero in on it.It would be similar to Hearns/ Roldan, but Benn would be a constant threat tell he gets laid out for good.Benn beat Barkley when Barkley was coming off of eye surgery and coming down from 210 lbs and dropping to 160lbs with out a tune up and hurt Benn badly in that crazy one round fight.Barkley got hit when he was down and lost by 3 knockdown rule, he was ready to continue after the third knockdown but the ref stopped it. Credit to Benn for jumping on Barkley and catching him by surprise.
Brilliant match up which has had me drooling at the prospect all day. Hearns has this reputation, Benn likes a tear up. I could see similarities with the Hearns v Hagler contest. Fast, explosive and with Hearns laid out.
Hearns would win rather easily as Benn is ready made to order. It would be similar to Hearns vsDuran knockout,
Hearns was better,,,but he was better than Barkley right? I think Benn clips him with a hook and Tommy wobbles.
It wasn't quite like that. Yes Benn stopped Barkley but it was on the 3 knockdown rule. I always felt Barkley wasn't seriously hurt and he could have cracked Benn, no problem. Regarding a fight with Tommy it would be very interesting! Benn was possibly my favourite fighter for a year when he was coming up through the ranks. Quite early on he went life or death with a fighter called Anthony Logan who nearly stopped him. I think the Hearns of the Shuler fight (the best middleweight Tommy) KO's him in the first or 2nd but if Nige lands those hooks it's game over for Tommy. Would have been a classic, albeit a short one.
THIS!! I'm a huge Benn fan but he ambushed Barkley and while he did great Barkley wasn't out of it, the 3 knockdown rule defo helped That said, Hearns was a killer so I can see strong case for either man. It's a 50/50 and anyone who says otherwise doesn't know boxing
