Why is wanting to maximise your earning potential being greedy?

This sort of thing baffles me. A guy stubbornly staying in the same job with the same company out of 'loyalty' whilst everyone else leaves to better their opportunities in life is rightfully seen as an absolute mug.

the big fights/paydays weren't guaranteed to come with cyclone though. You said he wasn't that big of a draw in an earlier post btw.I understand the points you're trying to make but i would be naive to agree with them.Fighters are entitled to do what they feel is right for themselves imo as they are taking all the risks.

Yeah its madness. Without a good tv deal, its much better to be managers instead of promoters. Originally with Barry Mcguigans standing in the sport if Cyclone stayed on this route instead of promoting they would have done well (as long as they looked after fighters). Too late now I feel as their name is now dirt in the sport.

Haven’t see what Frampton has said but recently I have gone off him with some of his tweets and behaviour , comes across a smug little know it all!

yes I think deep down Taylor would rather stay with Shane but that would seem impossible with what’s happened !

Shane is obviously the goods as a trainer but something or someone in that organisation is getting it seriously wrong.

Anyone else think that josh taylor is trying to manipulate public perception against the mcguigans. He knows that they have a bad reputation already and was probably hoping they wouldn't take him to court because of it. Taylor mentioning frampton litigtion made me suspicious of him.

But i mean how much is enough for people. The mcguigans have done great for his career so far. Got him big fights. Spent their time on him....lost fighters because of him. Hes benefited from their knowledge....and lets get it right the mcguigans are knowledgeable people in regards to the fight game. No one could have done much more developing him....plus they,ve got a contract. With them hes gonna make millions.

Without guys like the mcguigans taylor wouldn,t be where he is today. Bet they,ve lost money on him in the beginning. Not many guys out there would have bankrolled some of them fights so early in his career....probably why most fighters fight 20 useless guys to start with.

At what point do you look at it from their point of view of being mugs. Whats in it for them if everytime their about to reap the rewards of all the time and money spent on a fighter....they just leave to benefit themselves.

The mcguigans deserve better than that treatment tbh. Probably why theres so few promoters left. The very least the mcguigans deserve was the chance to get him big fights. They,ve surpassed expectations at every stage up to this point with his career. Cant be bothered with guys just out for themselves at the expense of others. Especially when they can all reap the rewards for the hard work they,ve put in. The fighter does take the risks....but they do get the lion share of the money anyway. But they all deserve to be paid.

What your opinion if your in the mcguigans position? To me hes pretty much stolen money they deserve. Thats just the way i see it tho.

Always felt the old saying of take care of your family first is abused nowadays. Any real man would look after their family first. But greedy people are using the saying to excuse their own greed and selfishness. Putting family first is what almost everyone would do when its essential. But when we,re talking about millions it then just comes down to greed. Instead of being man enough to admit it the old just looking after my family line gets trotted out. In situations like this theres enough money to go round. Everyones family benefits. Him and his family the most.

People wonder why they,re all depressed nowadays. Not surprised when the reality is you cant trust anyone. Thats what the attitude of looking after yourself over everyone else ends up creating. Eventually the penny will drop.

Arum's just said the Ramirez fight is 'possible' for the end of 2020.

As expected, whenever anyone signs for that snake Arum, they have to fight at least 2 bums first before the fight they actually signed for is made.

    Sigh.

Don't get your hopes up for 2020

He also said his first fight should be in the UK around April time - which shocked me but I’m happy with.

This is how I feel about the situation as well. If there has been no wrong doings with the contracts then the mcguigans deserved a chance to at least get a couple of Decent paydays from helping Josh get to where he is. I think he would of gotten big fights with cyclone as he holds two belts and plenty of fighters would love a chance at Taylor now. The Ramirez fight could if been made without him going to toprank.

I'm glad to see at least some people can look beyond simple maximising revenue on the fighters part. I'll preface this by saying I don't know the details of this contract, so maybe there's more here than meets the eye. I hope so because on face value I feel like you, the same way I felt when Fury ditched Hennesey. It may be a decision that will get them more cash, but it still sticks in the throat.

It seems some think that any action is justified because its a short career and it carry's with it risk. Both are true, but there are also risks involved in developing a fighter, investing in their future, putting the hours in to promoting them from a time when they're not famous, not big names.

The fact is that every time a boxer becomes successful, there's a business case for a bigger promoter to come in and offer them bigger fights and, perhaps, more money.

As fans do we want to support this action? Do we want the Arum's, Hearns and Haymon's of this world to cream off the best and profit from the work of others? It will likely happen whether we want it or not, but it will be less stomach churning if it's not accompanied by people applauding as men break their word and betray those who have helped them get to the point they're at.

I'd like some of these boxers to stick with the people that looked after them when they were nothing and let them share in the good times. That's the only way we will get fresh talent and more promoters at the top, which would be in the interests of all fans.

Unless you enjoy having Arum, Hearn and Haymon dictating the sport forever more?

Spot on mate. If taylor wants out pay the men their due. Hes online talking about how big a deal it is....if thats the case pay the mcguigans their due. Its got to be a bit galling when he leaves then is on bamming up his deal and complaining that the mcguigans have publicly stated their not happy about him leaving. Surely their within their right....taylors short changed them of their due.

Dirty game boxing....no longer a taylor fan tbh. Theres ways to treat people in life. Is there any point developing fighters with the current mentality them leaving before you can reap the rewards of your hard work. Pretty sure the mcguigans could have set up a deal with the right people to get him the big fights. They,ve done it up to now anyway.

I must say I agree with all your points in principle but a Boxer's career is a short one and can be ended with a single punch. Why could the McGuigans not talk to Top Rank ?
We don't yet and may never have all the facts but it's not the first time this has happened to Cyclone which suggests that they need to look very hard at how they do things.
