You keep saying safe compared to other sports. Which sports is boxing safer than?

And your numbers seem pretty crude. There aren’t that many boxers compared to people working in construction or fishing. You’d need to give evidence to show it wasn’t that dangerous based on death and long term injury per participant.

Just Google most dangerous sports and you will find countless sports that are considered more dangerous than boxing.
Here's an article on fishing deaths.
    https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.pr...men-six-times-more-likely-to-die-at-work/amp/
A report published by the Maritime and Coastguard Agency yesterday outlined findings that, in 2017/18, the industry suffered a rate of 62 fatalities per 100,000 workers.

That's a very high rate, the article also shows the rates of death per 100k population for other occupations. Waste management comes in at 10.2 and agriculture comes in at 8.4. Fishing is actually more dangerous than all the other occupations combined.

    https://www.google.com/amp/s/amp.cn...g-deaths-patrick-day-spt-intl-trnd/index.html
    This article shows boxing deaths.
A 2009 American Medical Association report estimated that there is a fatality rate in boxing of 0.13 deaths per 1,000 participants per year.

If you times that by hundred you 13 per 100k which is tbf alot worse than I actually thought it was. It's a bit worse than your waste management and agriculture but well behind fishing.

Bosmans are when a contract has run out or is about to run out I think. Not sure what length of contract or type of contract Taylor had with the mcguigans but if it was anything like football then top rank would have to negotiate a transfer fee and it would be a massive one considering Taylor's potential. Of course this is all just conjecture as this is boxing and I don't personally know much about the contracts or how they work.

Lol The chance of heart attack must be high, especially when they get close to that little white ball.

What happens next tho is the mcguigans realise its a mugs game....and get out of it. Why would you stick around a game where you get shafted everytime.

Probably the reason we only have one serious promoter left. What happens with new guys coming through...they get passed up and never amount to anything because theres no one left to further there career.

Look at it how you will but anyone that starts off taking a gamble on you....which lets be honest in a game like boxing its always a gamble regardless of how good a fighters looked deserves their ten or twenty percent. Its not like taylors not still getting 80 percent....you,ve got to pay for your development. Thats the way i see it...without that the game starts to fall down within itself. All the cogs in the wheel deserve to be paid.

No respect for anyone that does that. In some circumstances it is necessary....but not when the guys gonna be making a packet. I dont get why people think promoters/trainers/managers dont deserve to be paid.

Looks to me like you take all the risk for minimum reward and thats the success stories. Tbh dont understand why they do it. Stop doing it and see where the boxers get to.

I wonder how much the mcguigans made from Taylor. Also what would Taylor's career earning be so far. What's the chances of them getting another Taylor level fighter, I would say it's very slim.

Football is a different sport but clubs are also compensated if a player leaves before a certain age based on the fact that the club has invested in a player’s development.

A lot of interesting opinions and points on the Taylor - McGuigan split.

I'm going to try and balance it here.

    1. The McGuigans have done a fantastic job with Taylor. The fights chosen at the right time have been impeccable, as good a development career guide we have all seen in a long time.
Beating Dave Ryan at domestic level while looking excellent in doing so. Taking a slight risk in the unknown and beating and exposing Ohara Davies who was making a lot of noise got everyone talking. Arguably his most underrated win in beating Vasquez, a teak tough tricky operator who gave Taylor plenty to think about before finishing him off with a peach of a body shot in the 8th. A superb learning fight. Always improving, the timing of taking on an ageing inactive yet dangerous Viktor Postol ticked plenty boxes for still a short pro career. Winning the WSB and beating 2 quality operators, (especially Prograis) has been a fantastic job by all involved. So although Josh took the punches.... The management and guidance of the McGuigans was 100% spot on and credit where credit is due.

    2. That is a tough 16 fights for any pro fighter...
. How long does Taylor have left in boxing? Postol, Baranchyk and especially the Prograis fight (where a draw would not have been a bad result) were bruising contests. You can't have many like that in boxing. How many performances like the Prograis one does he have left? That was a special performance to overcome an excellent pugilist. Moving to top rank and earning as much cash as possible makes business sense, especially if he may only have another 6-10 fights maximum left in his career. Boxing is a short career, get as much money as you can.

    3. My final point is what is going on at Cyclone? Is it Barry? Shane being an awkward individual? Fighters don't seem to have a good word to say about them and the contracts they are given? Yes Barry knows his stuff and Shane is understandably one of Britain's finest trainers.... But many fighters have left there camp hardly praising them? What role has this played in Taylor jumping ship?

I don't know the in's and out's of the contract and what went on, however I can definitely see both sides of the coin.

good post,on your 3rd point we don't have any inside info but the fact frampton,Cameron and now Taylor have had issue's asks the question is it coincidental?is it possible Taylor has spoken to frampton at some point about all this?because I'm sure they get on well.

Wouldnt have thought so....but dont they deserve to make money as well. 10 to 20 percent seems fair to me. Its like people still believe we,re living in the 60,s when the promoters/managers took most of the money. Times have changed....but looking at what they,ve done for him......developed him as a fighter....promoted his fights....organised the events or got him on other peoples events....trained him in top class training facilities....got good names across for him. Turned away and lost good fighters to concentrate on him. Would have lost money in the beginning on him. Thats just scratching the surface. Do fighters not think these people deserve to share the success.

If thats the case lets see how they get on without these guys. Sneaky trick if you ask me.

Looking by the amount of people that think its allright pretty much shows you the state of society. I think deep down people know its a dirty trick....their own selfishness gets the better of them tho. Sad how little stand up guys there really are out there. At least people are honest about it tho tbf.

It is similar to bosmans....before they came about....the players we,re exploited a bit...now its went too far the other way where all the power lies in the players/agents hands. Same with the boxers people seem to favour whatever they do because at one time they we,re exploited. Changed days nowadays tho. Fighters at that level are doing the exploiting.

    Flip the coin here
Say a boxer starts losing and Manager or promotion starts to neglect them or stop using them
    Is that ok?
It happens just as often and isnt mentioned ever
    Its a two way thing
Each party will screw each other over at some point if one isnt living up to expectations
