If Tyson Fury beats Deontay Wilder and never fights again afterwards where do you rate him all-time?

If Tyson Fury beats Deontay Wilder 22 February 2020 and never fights again afterwards in boxing where do you rate him all-time?

I think if Fury wins it is very likely he will retire from boxing for ever. When he was an alphabet champion he held everything but the WBC strap. In my opinion, in his mind winning the WBC title is all he requires to achieve all he can in boxing. If he achieves that goal I believe he will move onto another goal, likely in the UFC.

If Fury beats Wilder and exits boxing where do you feel he stands in comparison to the greatest heavyweights of all time?

 

IF he beats Wilder and IF he retires I think he sits behind Lennox Lewis in the list of British all time greats. I don't think he can surpass Lennox given the depth of the current era but he is certainly up on the top table. In world terms I think he will be remembered as a flawed genius in the mould of Maradonna, Gascoigne, Geroge Best, Alex Higgins\O'sullivan, a man of incredible natural ability who reached the pinnacle of his sport but due to personal demons never achieved the legacy he was truly capable off.

 

No where near to the greatest heavyweight's of all time. He would need a much more deeper resume than what he currently has... and a decisive victory over Deontay Wilder alone will not get him there. Not even close.

 

Top 25 or so.

 

He hasn’t done enough to be rated on the ATG list. Too many great fighters who were active for their whole careers and faced several top opponents. If Fury beats Wilder and hangs up the gloves, he will go down as a curiosity. A big man who moves better than any big man I’ve ever seen, but wasted his talent. He has amazing movement, defensive skills, ring IQ, better stamina than you would expect for a flabby guy, and freakish size. Even if he beats Wilder and AJ, I still would say he wasted his talents because he has amazing boxing talent. Some people are just self destructive. Fury is one of those guys. This will always be part of his legacy.

 

In 2030, we'll be talking about Tyson Fury's next fight.

Fury will take breaks here and there. But he'll be fighting like Holmes did, well into his 40s.

 

Furys hiatus to deal with his personal issues and his lack of fights, makes me feel like he hasn't done enough to be considered a great. He still has a fair bit to achieve and beating Wilder would be a step in the right direction.

A boxing great should always be undisputed IMO.

 

A top fighter of this era, but to place him in an ATG category - no way. His resume isn't deep enough.

 

It will be a good win. Retires right after? If he wins by knockout that would mean much more. He would be ranked top 20..

 

His best win is a Vlad who had dropped to fighting at a level around a current Andy Ruiz. How many former heavies do you favor over Ruiz?

 

Great and Fury shouldn't be mentioned in the same sentence.

 

That will be equivalent to Mayweather going 1-0-1 vs undefeated Tommy Hearns/Trinidad & retiring

Fury has the right to dream of Dying as the G.O.A.T., he was Billy Conn close to shut-out Wilder, he has a second chance to do it...

Its very amazing how the history of boxing can be changed inside one second, Its up to Deontay Wilder...

 

I'd put him right up there with Greg Page.

 

I’d say alongside someone like Bowe. He’d have 2 (and a half) great wins and not much else.

Top 20 all time and a tough matchup head to head but too many “what ifs” because of the lack of regular top 10 competition.
