Of course, Ali was overall the better fighter but on the other hand, Ali never fought a giant with the combined size, chin and punching power that Vitali possessed. Plus, Ali wasn't a heavy puncher who Vitali would have to beware of. I pick Ali based on pedigree but I also think Vitali has a real shot at victory here.

Kenny Norton, Doug Jones, Jimmy Young, and Ron Lyle, showed us how Ali had trouble with a jab. Vitali had a more active jab, and was much bigger / more durable than the guys who either beat Ali, should have beaten Ali on a fair scorecard, narrowly lost to Ali or were ahead of Ali until getting stopped.

Ali should have two more losses ( Norton and Young ) on his resume.

Vitali is above these Ali opponents.

To be fair Ali wasn’t prime for any of those fights you mentioned. He also handled Listons jab extremely well at his best. Old Ali would have struggled w Vitali but the young one kills him.

Ali’s speed and workrate is the key here.

Ali by wide UD. Vitali would look very robotic and clumsy.

I think the words ,,prime Ali are mentioned,, in a 15 round fight Vitali's face would have knots all over it. He better have plenty of end swell in his corner

Vitalis 'active jab' was only ever on display against non-athletic plodders. What good jabbers did he beat? None.

The only good jabber he fought beat him. The connect % of Lewis jab was 10% higher than Vitali's. 43%>>32%.

That jab of a past prime Lewis was slow as molasses compared the the Jab of Ali's. . It also buckled Vitali's legs.

Ali has been in there against the best jabbers in the divisions history. Norton for one had a much better and more skilled jab than Vitali.

You're quick to go through Ali's resume , please , go through Vitali's resume and show all the good jabbers he beat.

Vitali had a great chin , but his power was overated I don't think he hit as hard as Liston,Foreman,or Lyle.
Ali was outreached by Liston ,Terrell,Bugner,Williams and Norton, and matched by Foreman, all save Foreman had longer reaches than Vitali .
Speed kills and I see Ali's durability, speed ,and mobility taking him to a decision here.

He often looked that against far less speedy and gifted opponents.

Ali is above Byrd and Lewis and fought and beat a calibre of opponent far better than Vitali ever shared a ring with!

2 Alis for me 1 is pre1970 the other is post 1970.
Pre 1970 Ali who last fought Williams and stuck n move? Head movements? feints, body shots, lighting jab that slashed faces? Threw punches in bunches while moving?
    He wins by horrific bloodletting.

Ali post 1970 probably dies in the ring against any era of Vitali.
