Liston knocked in sparing!

Yes he was knocked down ,I posted this about 7 years ago,but it could do with a new look at it.

 

A shame, that Floyd couldnt replicate his brother's achievement

 

If Floyd had stopped Sonny, I wonder how/if the fistic landscape would have altered?

 

A nicer man would've been the heavyweight champ, beyond that not much. Either Liston wins the rematch or Ali sweeps Floyd.

It's not hard to get knocked down if you fight/spar enough rounds... especially if you expect some lighter sparring and you meet a hot head with an agenda.

 

Getting "knocked " sparring is quite different than getting "knocked " in an actual fight. Who knows were Liston's mind was, meanwhile Patterson's brother was probably fighting the best he could fight trying to prove a point.... It means very little to be honest, considering Patterson's brother never did anything in boxing...... Every dog wags his tail sometimes.....

 

Who knocked him ? Who’d dare ridicule the great Sonny listen ?

 

Didn't Mac Foster drop Sonny or knock him out in sparring too?

Stuff happens in sparring, no big deal either. It's not as if it's indicative of what would happen in an actual fight.

 

Haven't looked much but saw this straight away -

Whilst serving as a sparring partner for Sonny Liston, Foster reportedly knocked out the former world champion.This account appears to have been exaggerated as it is not corroborated by newspaper accounts at that time. Foster may have floored Liston but the former champion carried on sparring not only with Foster but with other partners and worked Foster over before handlers could stop it during a sparring session two days later.

 

Interesting and a good reason why I take any sparring stories with a large pinch of salt.

Toxie Hall knocked Marciano down with a left hook when Rocky was training for Cokkell,but as Rocky said," it was a real good shot,but you try different things in sparring". Vitali Klitschko was knocked down by both Rafael Butler and Travis Walker in sparring .Tyson by Greg Page.It's claimed Jim Corbett knocked Jeffries down when they sparred in a handball court. David Haye flattened a young Wilder . Doesn't mean much at all,imo.
