Good one! I agree that fight was just boring as hell. It usually is when two boxer type of fighters face eachother. On the other hand a boxer vs slugger or boxer vs swarmer can be really exciting and pure fun to watch.
Technical Boxing technically means the technique used to fight with fists, with or without boxing gloves.
A technical boxer boxes by the book, in other words eliminates the obvious flaws in his technique. However, this does not mean his style is perfect. Most European boxers would be described as technical but they have that pronounced style flaw of pulling straight back. By the way, Tyson (at his best) would be described as a technical slugger. Muhammad Ali was too foot loose and fancy free to be described as technical, he did everything wrong but was good enough to get away with it.
A Technician is a fighter who no mater what sticks by a plan or game plan.. He doesn't run on instinct he sticks to solid paths to victory.. (Never lets anything outside the ring distract him..) Consumate pro.. It can be a great thing but most technicians aren't that multi faceted or versatile, they just train for one way of fighting an opponent and prepare for them in particular... Holyfield was a kind of technician, remember when he was training to face Tyson..which changed to Damiani, then eventually Cooper , he couldn't adapt.. he can .. but often won't ... He never ever avoids a fight though.. no matter who the opponent is.... A great pro.. But often flawed , yet knows how to use his best tools to his best advantages..
Technical boxing is a sort of boxing style that used by many boxer. The main goal of technical boxing is to hit first and do not get hit by your competitor. Here are the technical boxing techniques pinpoint punching accuracy effective footwork emphasizes quick
LOL! I figured you'd get about 4-6 different definitions, but not a different definition every other post LMAO! OK, here is definition #30? 1st is Accuracy. From Mayorga to Tyson to Ali, to RJJ they all threw overhands, uppercuts, jabs hooks. A technical boxer is looking for accuracy. Tyson threw an accurate everything IMO. His uppercut a lethal-look of perfection. His jab on par. Overhands. 2nd is how one sets up shots. Tyson's technique of throwing a hook to the body, followed up with an uppercut was fantastic. Opposite of technical/technique Take Sugar Ray Robinson or Roy Jones- they both threw such beautiful hooks, however SRR used talent to go against a solid technique- by throwing not 2 but 3 hooks in a row- Leave ya' self open for a counter. But his agility allowed him to break the rules and threw 3! In a row, only for RJJ to be the only man in the game to throw 4! in a row. All accurate. Not sloppy. Not a technique to emulate. IMO it's not the shot that makes it -other than technical-its the way he followed up...throwing 3 more- that made it something other than. Did you ever see the CW fight Nwodo vs Wilson? Two C+ rated fighters, but as Tessitore & atlas stated Dingaling man did what the old school technical boxers found most useful after that right----follow up with the left hook, He did and won. My point is that being technical doesn't mean being great. Hearns IMO was the technical boxer over Ray Leonard. His jab dictated the fight, not his power, yet Ray brought the dog out and brought an abrupt ending to that schooling he got. Last- Hopkins has all the fundamentals down and is a technical boxer, -yet so many of his wins come via (experience) of knowing where the ref is, so he can do dirty ass work. While he was so on point to sacrifice his jab over the superior jab of Winky..meaning IMO he used his to pary winky's best shot the jab. So unlike Tito to Shane & Vargas who couldn't beat his jab...The technique to counter it (pary) was How hop played Defense. 2sweet!! Now his offense was str8 outta Compton. That was an Alcatraz offense minus the prison shank!
Anyone who wants to know technical boxing should watch 2 guys from the lower weights who's technique was everything. Yuri Arbachakov & Ricardo Lopez
For every problem in a fight there are technical solutions. For punching, blocking, conserving energy... everything. A technical boxer employs the best technique for him, that will accomplish what he wants to get done. He does not employ unneeded movement or rely on his physical talent. his punches take the shortest path possible, generating the most force he is able to, because that is the most efficient technique. His slips are hair close, blocks are almost imperceptible, because that is the most efficient technique. He is a technical boxer.
