Alot of fighters showed up to pay tribute to a man with a great heart. I never knew Cockell had cancer after retirement. Just as the video did, I wish for this thread to be respectful to Cockell's legacy (it feels like he's been the forum punching bag recently, perhaps as a proxy to beat on a certain other fighter). Game, courageous man.

I’m glad you put that up mate, to redress the balance a little bit.
I think to a few on here Don Cockell has almost become a comic figure.
He was better than that, a good fighter.

Cockell passed away on July 18, 1983 at the age of 54 from cancer. Give him his due...he hung on for 9 rounds against Rocky Marciano. I've seen lots of guys quit a lot earlier for a hell of a lot less!!!

I give everyone who enters the ring for a buck their due.

But perhaps hanging 9 rounds with Marciano wasn't as hard as it was cracked up to be.
