Ya it was stupid. But was probably the biggest fight he could get at the time. He'd been chasing Khan. It was Khan that held that fight up.
Brook had what many of the others didnt. He had the balls to face GGG , the man at the time everyone else was avoiding. He put up a damn good show too till his terrible eye injury
He wanted to one-up Amir Khan over his Canelo fight. Khan is lucky he has a paper chin so he doesnt have to take a lot of punishment before being knocked out. Brook on the other hand, he took a slow beating (despite being competitive).
it was a fight he couldn't win, it was a fight where someone needed to sit him down and say forget the money. Even if he didn't get that injury, it was a fight I could see and everyone else could see him finishing face down on the canvas, even that alone could've finished him mentally as a fighter, why risk it for a few extra quid ?? As it goes, I rated Brook as the best Welter in the world up to the GGG fight, he was special and beats Spence if 100% healthy imo, but that one fight ruined his career, forget balls, it was stupid
Brook was set to unify with Vargas then Brexit happened, the pound fell and there was not enough money for the fight. Around the same time Eubank lost his pen for the Golovkin fight and Brook, without any other prospects of a big fight or payday just took it. Sure a mistake in hindsight but at the time it was probably life changing money.
I believe Kell really believed he could win that fight & he did put up a great showing too. He put up a better fight than either of Canelo's offerings till his eye got severely injured. Of the two Kel put up a better showing than a juiced up, protected Canelo did in either fight. What ifthat eye hadnt gone
Can't agree with this enough. Best British fighter of his generation for me, but GGG was a step too far. Would have knocked Khan out, would have beaten Spence had he not fought Golovkin. A shame.
