I wouldn't be so sure, Taylor's probably only made serious money in his last two or three fights and even then it wouldn't of been massive amounts. I can't imagine the mcguigans making big coin out of Taylor so far. He's basically left them as soon as the big time and the big money fights came.
It's 35%. 25% managers fees and 10%trainers fees. The trainers fees is also negotiable once it goes over 100k. They also have him in promotional contract and are eligible for any % there. I.e if he fights on other people's shows they're still eligible to certain deals there, off the top of my head, ticket sales spring to mind. This could well be a case of TTT sees how cyclone squeeze everything out of a fighter. Remember he was close to Frampton when he was awoken at 6 in the morning by inland revenue. It's happened to too many fighters at cyclone for there not to be real issues there. Maybe Taylor kept his head down and mouth shut as he was still in contract. As time went by he knew if he got a better offer he would leave and therefore he went about building an acceptable case against mcguigans where they breached there own contract. Shane is a bright lad but his self bias is busting at the seams. Look at someone like Steve woods who has promoted and managed probably over 10, 000 fighters but you will not see one bad word against the man in regards to underhandness. And all his fighters say what a gent he is. Then match him to cyclone who have had maybe 10 promo/manager deals and half of them have walked screaming foul play. I know a lot of us don't like to convict someone without direct evidence. Butbin cases l8ke this the indirect evidence speaks volumes.
The 35% thing annoys me. Since crampon it’s all “ oh the Mcguigan’s take 35% etc”, EVERY boxer pays out 35% just to different people, Makes sense for the Mcguigan’s as a business to keep it all in house
might make sense for barry but not so much for shane when he keeps losing fighters over promotional/managerial disputes that have nothing to do with him. he needs to cut the cord from cyclone.
That's not quite right. Not every team takes 35%. Which mainly boils down to the managers % been reduced But 35% is what the team are entitled to so there should be no qaurms if that is the % been taken. Especially if that team 8s doing a good job.
I'd imagine being tied into the promotional contract was not financially attractive. Top rank would have offered a massive sign on bonus and fights against Ramirez and Crawford. Barry was trying to pimp him to Matchroom with fights against Ritson and err Robbie Davies? Looks purely financial to me and MTK have obviously done a number on Barry. Either way Matchroom cannot compete with the career path on offer at Top Rank.
I watched Shane's interview on Boxing Social. As others have said he was not working for free. But I can see why he is annoyed because they got him where he is and now he is set to make big money he has walked. And it sounds like he was sneaky about it and didnt say to Shane direct. If they were speaking to matchroom its not like they were not getting him into a position to be in big fights.
There is no smoke without fire ! Barry has had a few financial issues starting with his court case v Barney Eastwood which he lost , interesting reading if you can be bothered to look it up.It is reasonable for Manager,Trainers etc. To be paid and promoting a boxer to a World Championship is no mean feat but most successful promoters take the cream of the amateur crop to enhance that possibility.Cyclone are no different Frampton and Taylor were top amateurs and I would guess that they were given inducements to sign? What form these inducements took again I can only surmise. Money however will always be a source of contention.
the whole "they got him to where he is" is a load of sh** he got himself there nobody else, hes the one taking the punches and giving it back
Not sure i agree. To get to that stage takes team work. I dont get why people think promoters/trainers/managers dont deserve to get paid. Would love to see fighters getting there on their own. Theres a lot of work that gets put in to get someone like taylor to where he is. Taylor does deserve the lion share...no one disagrees with that but its wrong to think these guys dont deserve a cut as well. Its getting to the stage there isnt really much choice for boxers nowadays as it is....because its a mugs game. You take all the risks. When you eventually get a succesful one....they up and leave when its time to make big money. Probably why theres not many top level trainers in britain or promoters or managers tbh.
Let’s see if this outfit actually comes up with the money. It makes zero sense after winning the bid that they would sstick it in Scotland /UK.
Yeah that was my first thought too. I feel like Top Rank will get the rights similar to Beterbiev v Meng.
I agree -- I think this will end up back in Top Rank's hands... but lets see. Why win just to stick it on on the champ's home turf?!
